HID technology fails to state that while it provides massive lumens, they are being dispersed a great distance, and the beam quality is disappointingly poor. I've used both technologies and I rely on maglite in my business. The beam clarity is excellent, it has great range, is easy to use/recharge and has a long lifespan. It's far cheaper, the only drawback is it is heavier than the average flashlight, but you can't always expect something that packs the punch of a cannon to fit in your pocket.
