Boker Plus Trance 42

Another welcome addition to my ever expanding collection of UK legal folders.
Just about perfect for the price, not an initial fan of the design, but it is very user friendly and travels with me virtually everyday now. Sharp out of the box and still sharp after a fair amount of use and abuse. Had a couple of close calls with it trying to close with no lock, that’s to be expected. Nothing as bad as when my UKPK closed and I had the end of my finger re-attached. This little Boker makes my UK legal Spydercos look over priced and under engineered.
The only thing I’d prefer is a slightly thicker blade, less likely to cut into your hand under heavy use.

This might sound stupid but please please please be carrful when testing this for its sharpness. I opened my thumb doing. Trust me when i say that it's wicked sharp OTB. Perfect. Small, sharp, legal. Arrived today and went straight into my jacket and also went top of my 'must tell people to buy' list. I hated having to remove my knife from my outdoors jacket and now I have found an absolute gem. Heinnie, 5 stars all round.

An all-round great knife, sharp out of the box, slip-joint but secure, excellent design! There's no mistaking the blade is under 3 inches so it's perfect! Highly recommended!

A truly superb knife in its own right, very solid feel to it, great grip. All round quality is good. The blade is perfectly centered and came very sharp indeed.

This is the perfect UK legal EDC, for several reasons. Unlike some slip-joints, the blade doesn't spring shut, meaning that it can be closed smoothly with no risk of catching a finger. The small finger guard also makes it impossible for the blade to close while you are gripping it, making it very safe to use. The blade feels very secure when open, absolutely no play in it.

A comment on the service from Heinnie: this was my first order, and I successfully messed up by ordering the wrong knife. After just one email, the order was corrected, and delivered the next working day. Truly remarkable service, will be delighted to purchase from them again.

I'm not that experienced with knives and such, but needed something better for work (builder). I've been using a SAK but quite honestly, it's useless. Needed something you could open with one hand and not be worried about snapping the blade or cutting my fingers off, also I don't want to carry an illegal knife, although I only use it for work.
Happy to say the Trance 42 is just the job, easy to open even with gloves on, and very robust. Also sharp as a very sharp thing, out of the box :)
Yes, the holes are a little rough round the edges but after a short while on site, that won't be much of a problem.
As for being legal, there is no way it could be taken for a lock knife, even by the most stupid person, it's impossible to lock and you realize that instantly.

Very safe non locking folder, if held right there is no way for the blade to contact or close on fingers during use. The blade itself comes razor sharp and holds its edge very well. The profile of the blade is nice and thick, with lots of belly. As regards the countersunk holes that everyone is getting their knickers in a twist over, mine look to have been refinished, not sure if that was Boker or Heinnie, but there are no blemishes to spoil the look of the knife present on my one and I'm assuming that means on future ones there is no coating in the countersunk holes to look bad. If you're debating whether or not to get this or one of the new similarly priced Spydercos I would definitely side with the Boker. The other issue that has been voiced about legality, this IS a non locker, the force needed to close it is no more than my kiwi 3, Even an over vigilant policeman could see that for themselves upon handling the knife.

Truly exceptional knife, the AUS 8 blade is amazingly sharp and the overall ergonomics are superior to the majority of others, ignore claims of poor quality control from boker, mine is as perfect as you could wish for. Despite also owning much more expensive knives, i still choose this for EDC.

Heinne Haynes are also brilliant! I ordered many knives from them at around 9pm of an evening and it arrived 11am the next day!

As mentioned in forums if average Joe copper finds you with this on you BUSTED! to say the least, just not UK LEGAL enough for me. 42 range too expensive compared to the normal range.

This is a great little EDC knife. Quite sharp out of the box, easy to open, nice solid grip. You can pretty much hold the base of the knife with your thumb on top and the back of your finger on the guard underneath. This makes it very hard to close while in use.

Down side is the price, a little expensive, but much cheaper than the Spyderco UKPK!

Overall a good little knife.

I personally love the feel of this knife, although its a slipjoint it feels so safe and secure. Great build, I also agree with the counter sink but thats easily amended :D Although reading up on a few forums I still wouldnt chance using it as an EDC.

This knife sits great in the hand, and opens well with the thumbstud - the flipper takes a while to get used to though. It's very comfy to wear and doesn't 'print' much, but the pocket clip is a bit bold. May attract attention.
Love the knife overall, great value, but it loses a star for one tiny niggle - the countersinking is a bit rough around the holes on the back. Doesn't bother me much, but when the fit and finish is otherwise perfect it's a shame when some lazy countersinking spoils it.

At last a decent EDC that is UK Legal and does not break the bank...quite impressed with the Trance, very comfortable to grip(pocket clip removed),sharp out of the box. One hand opening needs the flipper to start off, before using thumb stud to finish off. Only four stars as bolster screws needed tightening up, otherwise once again excellent service from Linda.
