Here’s the latest in high tech super lightweight construction from Columbia River Knife & Tool. The Contrail is a Jim Hammond design which features a unique open build and striking blue/black layered G10 exclusive to CRKT. In addition to being a fully functional featherweight carry, it’s a knife that stands out in the crowd. The textured G10 Contrail handles offer a comfortable and aggressive grip in a knife that is amazingly light— the 2.5" blade model weighs only 1.1 oz. (31 g), while the 3.0" blade model weighs only 1.8 oz. (51 g). The custom-colour blue/black G10 handles are exceptionally rigid and fill the hand well, yet the small Contrails are actually lighter than titanium folders of comparable size. It is one of the lightest production knives available anywhere.
Handles are precision CNC machined, and are textured with aggressive finger castellations at the finger notch for top security. A 420J2 stainless steel “pocket” locking liner is inset in a machined recess in one handle. The blade is laser cut from quality Z60CDV14 stainless steel in a high satin finish, giving a durable, tough cutting edge on a flowing, modified spear point grind. Both Contrail sizes are available with Razor-Sharp and Combined Razor-Sharp and Triple-Point Serrated cutting edges. The blade thumb ramp features unusually deep friction grooves for superior control and safety. Dual thumb studs allow ambidextrous, one-hand opening.
The Contrail features CRKT’s typically robust quality construction, using Torx fasteners and Teflon blade bearings at the blade pivot. Also typical of CRKT, there is a removable custom stainless steel clothing/gear clip featuring a laser cut-out of the CRKT logo (It’s a real eye catcher). Their light weight makes the Contrail models ideal for carry when undertaking high performance activities such as hiking, climbing, boating, rafting, and cycling.
