We want variety! Its an often heard sentiment from knife customers and is why Spyderco offers several bestsellers with different handle options. Knife nuts wanting the lightest-weight folders available, gravitate to FRN or fiberglass reinforced nylon handles. Ultra-light FRN is warp resistant, shuns chemicals, and isnt affected by temperature extremes.
Spydercos non-locking, one-hand open, clip carry folders are called SLIPITS. Starting in 2004, Spyderco launched a folding knife model called the UK Penknife, targeted for carry in the United Kingdom where newly imposed legal restrictions forbade folding knives with locking blades. As the SLIPIT concept gains momentum Spyderco keeps expanding the line with folders in varying sizes, steels and handles. Newly added are Lightweight SLIPITS.
Lightweight UK Penknife blades are held open by a notched-joint at the knifes pivot. When closing the blade the notch produces resistance functionally similar to traditional slip-joint penknives. Heightening control and comfort, Spyderco designers added a deep finger choil positioning the index finger on the bottom of the blade directly under the thumb. This lets you choke up near the cutting edge with comfort and dexterity. A tension-wire clip carries the folder deeply in a pocket, tip-up and ambidextrously.
How is this for variety- the Lightweight Penknife comes with a GIN-1 Drop Point or Leaf Shaped blade (both hollow-ground) in three edge configuration choices, PlainEdge, SpyderEdge and CombinationEdge. Also pick your preference of a blue, gray or maroon FRN handle.

This is my first pocket knife. Absolutely fantastic. Super sharp straight out the box. Other reviewers have said almost every thing else about how great it is. What I would like to add is the fact it's an ambidextrous knife. Being left handed, it can be really hard to get a right handed knife open but with this knife (and it seems all Spyderco's)opening and closing it one handed is simple.
This is one of the best UK legal to carry knives and is excellent value for the price.
Its has very good CTS-BD1 steel and is extremely lightweight, thanks to the FRN handles. 50g is nothing.
The most comfortable Spyderco I own, and I own quite a few. It is more comfortable than the delica and did I mention it's legal.

This is my second review of this knife. After owning a plain-blade UKPK for a while it's grown on me to the point that I've bought the serrated version (which I think is more useful in an 'urban' setting).
I'm pleased with this except for one thing - the blade is GIN-1 steel versus CTS-BD1 on my other UKPK. Google informs me that CTS-BD1 is the better alloy yet they're the same price?! Minus a star for that. Otherwise a good knife, with enough of a plain edge at the tip to still be a combination blade in my book despite being described as fully serrated.
As mentioned in my other review just be careful where and how you carry it.
Razor sharp out of the box.Nice and easy to open and close one-handed.Reasuring choke points on blade to stop it closing on your fingers ! The FRN handle makes for a lightweight knife and is far more grippy than my older(worn) G10 handled UK pen'.All in all a top quality knife and well worth the price. Excellent service from Heinnie , as usual.
The blade itself is great quality and the ergonomics are pretty good. The FRN scales look and feel a bit cheap, but will probably last forever and make the knife very lightweight. 4 out of 5 for the cheap feel, even if it is eminently practical.
Is this an EDC knife? Well it's technically street-legal, but if the wrong copper found this on you they'd find something to arrest you for (probably for 'going equipped'). I'd happily carry this in rural areas or on a long distance walk without having any particular reason to have it on me, but in the city I'd take a Boker Subcom instead.
A very well thought out knife, perfect for EDC. The blade came razor sharp out of the box and has stayed that way for three weeks of hard use. The FRN handle is... well its a hard plastic, there is no escaping that, however this knife is definitely a user and as such the scale material is all about function and performs well. I would say that Function is exactly what this knife is about and it performs very well. Highly Rated, Recommended.
Great little knife, super sharp out of its box and put together well, slightly bigger than I assumed based on the picture but feels good in the hand, nice and solid with a reassuring click when opening and closing and no play in the hinge. Knife blade is CTS BD1, not gin 1 which I gather they may have used on a previous model, not sure how significant this is but a much more informed metalurgist than myself may be able to explain! Super fast delivery from HH (ordered it yesterday before 3.30, and arrived today with free delivery!
Before buying this knife I read a lot of reviews comparing it to the more expensive and discontinued UKPK G10 S30v full flat grind knife. In these it said it wasn't as good and I can't comment as I haven't used one, but compared to my Victorinox SAKnife it's worlds apart, it's shaving sharp straight from the box so sharp I have cut myself as I'd got into bad habits with my SAK as it wasn't that sharp. Deals with packaging and basic food paring tests with ease and would be up for light bushcraft task. An excellent knife for the money, the older knife may be better but this is as good as you'll ever need for an EDC knife
Also want to commend Heinnie for their amazing customer service, quick, efficient, excellent communication.
I just recieved my UKPK this morning and not only wow on the knife itself which is amazing riding soo low in the pocket its barely visable descrete clip and its razor sharp literally I compared it on cigarette paper cutting free cut (normally only straight razors have the factory edge to do this) and it went through it like a knife through butter better than a straight razor infact. Also the service amazing I thought I would see how fast my knife would come if I ordered on saturday 2pm (after heinnie closes for the weekend) and recieved it one day after their monday dispatch this was with the free postage option trully amazing service for a epic knife thank you Heinnie.
Please also read my review on drop point version. I loooove this knife, it gets used to hell at work and when I play (bushcrafty things). Please don't under-estimate how strong this is, I'm a strong guy with large mitts and cane this knife (not abuse though)every day and it looks as good as new. Steel gets better the more you sharpen.
Got mine when they first came out from HH. Excellant knife love the blades stonewashed type finish, doesn't leave as many finger marks. Razor sharp out the box like most Spydercos but edc? People think UK legal means a free pass. You get the wrong type of officer, which is most these days and you'd be buggered with this. It even looks scary to a non-knife person. So come on Spyderco do a slipjoint FRN ladybug it's less offensive looking and will help those in parts of Europe who are limited to a 2" slipjoint and we thought we had it bad.
Fantastic delivery service, great knife, razor sharp from box, but could not resist giving it a few strokes from my gatco sharpener and a little stropping, result will now slice through a A4 sheet of paper, length ways in one.
This is a great little knife. Perfect size and shape for edc. Incredibly light though; I was checking my pocket to make sure it was still there for the first few hours!
Super fast service by Heinnie once again.
Good introduction to the full fat UK G10, yes it is light, bit too light for my tastes. Blade steel is acceptable for the money and came real sharp as usual. The FRN grips are hard to get purchase on compared to the G10, but you pays yer money. Well done to Spyderco for giving us more choice for a legal EDC. Great service from HH as usual.
Superb service from HH-as always.
A very well made knife, practical, super light, UK legal and very cool looking. I now carry this as an EDC/Rescue knife. Well up to both roles. Get one or two!
I looked at reviews of this for ages before buying it and I can say it really is worth the price. Perfect knife in every way. Don't fall into the trap of using something non-legal like the new Boker- you only need to get caught with it once and it's game over!
Arrived today, the day after despatch, shaving sharp out of the box, great service.
Beautiful little knife, extremely well made and shaving sharp out of the box. Maroon scales are darker than the picture would suggest and extremely grippy. Deep and discrete pocket carry with the impressive ‘paper clip’. So lightweight you don’t know it’s there.
This may be the perfect EDC knife.
The usual impeccable service from HH.
5 stars top every day carry knife at a price that's right for a sharp quality knife that's also legal to carry. Again top service to HH.
A great discreet, lightweight knife and a UK legal EDC.
Being left handed, it is nice to find a knife design with a pocket clip that can be mounted on either side of the knife for a tip up carry. The clip is positioned high on the scale allowing for a deep pocket position. The only thing missing for me is a lanyard hole.
This Spyderco is thoroughly recommended, especially at the price when compared to both the Urban and the G-10 handled UK penknife.
what a lovely little knife,im so glad i have one now,not big into slippys but this one fits the bill nicely.good build, finish.came sharp enough and holds edge well.strong spring so no worries there.picture doesnt do it justice.
This is a good value alternative to the UKPK. Feels very light, handle a little plastic feeling though of course.
Opens easily, very one hand-able, and mine arrived super sharp.
Good value, recommended.
