    Excellent anorak.

Posted by Mr. Pond. on 19th Oct 2020

I was expecting this to be a fairly thin sort of wind beater type anorak. Boy was I wrong. The material is ripstop poly cotton with a brushed cotton tartan lining which also features insulation. Inside the sleeves is a smooth nylon taffeta type material so the sleeves of the anorak won't drag on whatever you're wearing underneath. The kangaroo pocket is really useful for holding nearly anything, or for keeping your hands warm in cold & windy weather. This anorak is much higher quality and much warmer than I expected it to be, to my very pleasant surprise. Sizing is generous and easily allows for layering underneath. The hood is roomy but adjustable with the two cords so can be cinched down around your face. This is an excellent piece of outwear in cold & dry weather. I wouldn't rely on it to keep me dry in the rain but if you want an outer layer for winter use on cold but dry days and don't want an overly 'tactical' look this is an excellent choice which I'm sure will last for many years.

    Solid piece of kit.

I've just bought my 2nd taclite anorak, 1st one still going strong. Hard wearing and practical, it's my go to jacket for most activities bar strenuous exercise. I've worn it down to -5 with a rugby shirt underneath it and was warm. It's not waterproof but I've worn in light rain and stayed dry. Easy to wash in a machine and good sized pockets.

    Outstanding.

I purchased this because I wanted something less obviously tactical for urban use. So: Generous cut, extremely comfortable to wear. The two chest pockets give generous amounts of room for wallets, phones etc. Also easily accessible. Kangaroo pocket gives lots of room for hat, gloves, keys, lighter etc. Side zip makes it very easy to put on. Build quality is 5.11's usual high standard. Worn in heavy rain & I stayed dry. Not sure how it would withstand prolonged pounding heavy rain, but that's Gortex Parker territory anyway. Has enough insulation to be useful. In fact I wore it with a light fleece at 7c and was too warm. Recommended.
