Andre de Villiers is a South African designer, maker, who has an almost obsessive sense of quality. Nothing leaves his workshop until absolutely perfect.

This version of the Micro Butcher is a beautifully crafted hefty little folder which is acceptable to carry in the UK at the owner's discretion, due to the non-locking blade under three inches long.

The blade is VG10 Damascus steel stainless steel with a wide, flat ground profile ideally suited to so many tasks or just for looking at! The handle is made using a combination of stainless steel bolsters and Burlwood scales with a shield on one side for engraving if desired. There is also a lanyard loop at the end of the tang to attach a lanyard of your choice.

    Excellent

Posted by James Bruce on 21st Sep 2022

Received an email within 24 hours of taking delivery and posting my review opinion on this knife. Richard has offered me the options of returning the knife for refund or exchange. From my review he has immediately realised I was a bit disappointed with the ADV. What excellent customer service. I am hoping to be able to return the knife in part exchange for a W.F. Steenkamp knife I have my eye on when it is back in stock. Shame, as the ADV is so lovely to look at. Undoubtably the most beautiful knife I own, from the burlwood scales to the Damascus blade which is just gorgeous. It's bordering on being a piece of jewellery. Just not very sharp.

    Poor but Beautiful

Posted by James Bruce on 16th Sep 2022

My latest addition to my UK legal carry collection, which must be about 60-70 by now. This is by far the most expensive knife I have ever bought. It is stunningly beautiful to look at and hold, BUT, totally useless as a functional, practical working knife. It may be the most expensive knife I own, but I don't think I own any that are this blunt. Cannot even look at the paper cutting test that I always try out on the corner of my receipts from HH. The blade just slides of the paper. I think it would actually struggle to cut warm butter. Would really like to try sharpening it, but I'm not very good at this skill, and have ruined a few knives over the years trying, and failing. All I end up doing is scratching the blade which doesn't really end up being very sharp. Don't dare try it with this knife as its beautiful Damascus blades looks are all it has going for it. Arrived within 24hrs of placing order with HH. Maybe I should box it back up and return it. Mmm ??
