  1. Traditional sheath knifeReview by

Originally I ordered the stacked leather handle which came with the usual prompt Hennie service. Upon inspection of it, the leather handle was much darker than the photo, as if it was dyed black. Not itself a problem but the handle had a blemish on it and the handle was uneven towards the pommel. Whilst I know they are subject to variations in the manufacturing process this was not acceptable to me as it was not so comfortable to hold. I have owned others over the years and the finish was far superior .Maybe this was a one off or maybe not reading the last review.
The blade was well finished but not particularly sharp, but that could be rectified.
Following my phone call to return and get a replacement, I again had the usual excellent service from Hennie by return post.
The stag handle variant has a much better finish than the previous leather handle one, and is aesthetically more pleasing to look at. This one is comfortable to hold and is sharper but not razor sharp with the blade and overall finish is excellent .
The brown leather sheath is a good fit and looks the part for this traditional knife .

Just got the knife, the handles finnish was pretty bad, didn't look like the picture at all. The handle is also shaped unevenly and is really uncomfortable to hold. Pretty disappointed but I realise this might have been a one off, still a fast delivery by heinnie. (Posted on )

Hows this for service? Ordered Thursday 18/12/14 at 17:15, arrived Friday 14:00. Outstanding I say, especialy with Xmas being only a few days away.A big thank you to the guy's at Heinnie Haynes.
As for the knife I will do a first impressions review now & a more in depth when I have has a chance to test it out.
First impressions are very good. The knife is very well finished & very sharp. The handle is much darker leather than the photo's but matches my Down Under Outback perfectly. The blade is nice & thick & the polish is perfect. I thought the file work on the spine would look a biit naf but I was wrong, it is a beutiful knife.
Overall a very handy size & will make a great general purpose knife.
Having several Sheffield knives collected over the past 51 years (being local to Sheffield I started my collection when I was 5!) I thought the sheath would be thin & flimsy but it seems that things have improved & this one is nice & thick, well rivited & the finish is top notch. It is a little tight but a spray with lether food should loosen things up a little bit.
Overall I am very pleased with this bargin purchase, Sheffield can be proud to still produce outstang knives. Don't bother with the K Bar's buy the real thing, you won't be dissapointed.

  4. Knifey KnifeReview by

My mate bought me this knife for my birthday, I've wanted a proper outdoors knife for years, I've had a few, but no way as wholesome and beautiful as this! I chose the leather handle option, and damn nice it is too. And I'm pretty chuffed that it comes with a good thick sewn and riveted sheath too. Not too big, not too small, nice and sharp and feels good in the hand. My last knife was from Finland and had a flexy blade thing, bit c##p if you ask me, it bent while cutting the head off a dead deer, I very much doubt this thing of British beauty will bent at all! Top marks! (Posted on )
  5. Carbon SteelReview by

This knife is made of carbon steel not Stainless. If you treat carbon steel with respect it will last you years, if you're a wally and think you can get it wet, never clean it and not oil it, it will rust and stain like a bugger! Don't blame the knife, blame yourself!

Had one of these for ages, lovely knife and takes a sharp edge and holds it. Nice little hunter.

  6. Other sitesReview by
According to several other sites, these knives are in fact carbon steel, NOT stainless as in heinnie's description. Easy mistake to make.

Dry them after use and oil them regularly to prevent rust.

I've had one of these knives
for over 30 years and I still
love it, sheath was no better when I bought it 30 years ago, however, worse infact as it was horrible yellow leather.

Found the blade stains and rusts exceptionally easy. Says stainless steel on the blade,(if only that was so). Am extremely dissapointed! (Posted on )

Great knife. Well engineered. Shame about the sheath. Tacky bonded leather. Would pay for a better sheath. Fantastic service from Heinnie's as usual. If only other sites could be as efficient and honest. (Posted on )
