Great knife. Review by

Loads of people have done reviews on this knife, so all I'm going to say is that it's a expensive knife but a brilliant knife, benchmade has a brilliant warranty and if you ask benchmade for a deep carry pocket clip they will send you one or even a few for free. (Posted on )

What a great little thing this is! Perfect in almost every way. The only, very minor quibble is that it’s not as sharp as it could be. But, even out of the box, the action and Axis lock are brilliant. It’s small and light, but packs a lot of blade for its overall size. I could go on ad nausem, buts it’s all been said before.

What’s not so good? Our knife laws! This couldn’t be more people friendly and innocuous, but it’s 0.4” too long and has, God forbid, a lock! Oh well at least it will last longer, just sitting on a shelf!

Like most people today I read the reviews and watched the utube reviews and thought is it really all that. Yes it is pricey but let’s face it isn’t everything we buy in the UK. Firstly you get your new 940 , open the box and think ‘well it’s green’ it feels funny - but in a good way - like it belongs in your hand. You carry it for a few days and it then does start to belong you. You start looking for tasks to do . The handle starts to smooth in and the action is even better than new. It becomes ‘she’ not ‘it’ which is why users love this knife.
Every one has her tale to tell. Her story develops with the usage marks to handle and blade. This is one of the best in its class of knife : light, multi tasking , cut holds an edge, undoes the odd screw, opens boxes letters banding tape seat belts and anything else we may use every day.

This is a lovely tool.

I'm going to start this review with the two things I don't like about this knife (as everything else I have to say is positive). Both negative points concern the handle...

1. When the knife arrives new, the factory finish of the handle is a kind of texturing (probably for additional grip on the aluminium scales). I found it felt like velvet... which I loath the feel of). I hated the feeling of the handle so much, I nearly returned the knife. Ha. This grip is solvable though. I resolved the issue by just rubbing my fingers into the surface of the handle. After a while, the texture changed from velvet feeling to satin. I love how it feels now! Talk about opposites!

2. The handle is aluminium that has a surface treatment making it green.... this will scuff and show scratches quite easily if you are careless with it... I'm careful, but I've still managed to get a few. It's not a big problem... but it's the only real issue with this knife other than the price! (The green finish is lovely though, goes well with the purple back spacer... my only complaint here is cosmetic durability!).

<Good stuff now>

The Warren Osborn designed reverse Tanto, is a cool looking blade. It's very strong, the S30V steel is very good. I love how long the blade is despite the overall compactness of the knife. The AXIS lock system is brilliant. Super quick to deploy, and close. Super smooth. Extremely strong. When it's opened it feels as reliable as a fixed blade. I've had no issues with the omega springs...

Pocket clip does it's job well. Not too stiff, not too loose, just right. Knife rides low in your pocket, but is very comfortable to extract. The 3 screws that hold the pocket clip on are very easy to grasp and pull from.

The knife is very strong, and very light.

I think this an almost perfect folding knife in my opinion. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to you.

I've been looking at the reviews and videos online for months and eventually plucked up the courage to order one knowing that Heinnie have a great returns service.

From the moment I took it out of the box, I fell in love with it. Although I wouldn't want to do too much heavy cutting without gloves on, the feel in had is something special. It's well balanced and the deployment is quick and smooth. It was sharp out of the box too. The Axis lock is probably the most addictive thing in the world! I've spent hours flicking the blade in and out, very therapeutic!

If you've spent anytime thinking about it and you can afford it, buy one. I genuinely don't think you'll regret it and if you do, Heinnie will pay for return postage!

Benchmade knives were recommended to me by an expert in 2010, and I was gently pointed at the Osborne 940. I used the knife day in, day out in my business, as well as doing a variety of bushcraft-related jobs as-needed that suited its use for a number of years.

It's very easy and comfortable to hold.

The close and release of the blade is supreme, with the slightest rotation of the wrist flicking the blade out to the firmly locked position, and the reverse when the lock is released from open.

The S30V blade takes a fabulous, lasting edge too.

I liked it so much, I bought 2 more for my staff who are still using them now, as am I in preference to anything else for any task to which a blade of that length and shape is suited.

This is an unusual and very desirable knife, it is beautifully built and the operation is smooth and reassuring, however, I have quite a few Benchmade knives and this is the only one that I have been unable to get really sharp. The steel on this knife is S30v and it is not the first time I have had problems getting the edge I desire with this steel. Having read and watched reviews on this knife it would seem I am not the only one, some owners have even resorted to sending them away to sharpening specialists. Don't get me wrong it is possible to get a working edge for general use but compared to my Rift there is no contest. All this aside I love the knife and if I lost it I would replace it. (Posted on )

fantastic little knife with outstanding attention to detail and silky smooth operation, first knives I've owned with the AXIS lock and couldn't be happier with it. most surprising thing is the exetremely low weight but how strong it feels despite it being so light . would reccomend it to anyone, and i do, its certainly one to show off! It took me ages to decide to buy my first Benchmade but this is a knife in a class all its own. The written word cannot really do this justice, you have to hold it to appreciate just how good it is. Build quality is way ahead of most other manufacturers. It is super smooth and the blade is a breeze to deploy. My only reservation is the clip, which seems a little too large but at least its not too stiff and its perfectly useable. The axis lock is so easy to use, either when deploying or releasing the blade, and the handle is very comfortable with a fine texture.
This may be expensive but now I think its worth every penny and it certainly wont be my last Benchmade. Simply superb!

Some reviews say this knife isn't sharp out of the box. Do you offer an aftermarket re profiling and sharpening service if it isn't sharp OTB?
A:
We can certainly sharpen knives here - but we find that one man's "shaving sharp" is another man's "blunt" - it's a matter of opinion.
We tend to find that all Benchmade knives ship with a decent, useable edge. They're not blunt, by any stretch of the imagination.
