Heinnie Haynes Staff Picks – Nick

This months Staff pick comes from another guy who is on the frontline of the company, on the phone, by email and in person. This man is Nick. He started off being a customer, but ended up joining the company in about 2004 (he’s been here so long he can’t remember).

Nick is also our resident Spyderco expert. If you’ve ever had a question about Spyderco, he’s probably been the one to answer it. You’ll probably notice that from the selection below.

Outside of work Nick is a bit of a motorcycle junkie. He’s also an avid fan of ‘The Grateful Dead’.

Unfortunately Nick isn’t the biggest fan of photo’s so picture a grey haired Astrix and you wont be too far wrong!

10. Fenix PD25

At number 10 Nick chose the Fenix PD25 flashlight. This is Nick’s go to EDC torch. Why? Well it’s small enough to be carried virtually everywhere and bright enough (550 lumens) to illuminate most environments. The other reason for Nick carrying this particular flashlight is because it can use either rechargeable 16340 Li-ion batteries or CR123A lithium batteries. Having options is always useful!

  1. Spyderco Vrango Ti

What’s not to like about the Spyderco Vrango Ti? Well if you are a bit of a Spyderco fanv like Nick, you could argue very, very little. The size of the knife makes it perfect for pocket carry. The blade shape is not only nice to look at but also really useful here in the office. To top it off, the Vrango Ti is also really good looking and made from some very good materials. As we said at the start, what’s not to like?

  1. Fallkniven F1

You may have got the idea that we are big fans of the Fallkniven F1 here. It’s arguably one of the best value fixed blades around for bushcraft and survival. From the laminated VG10 steel to the Rubberised handle. When Nick jumps on his bike for a weekend outdoors his Fallkniven F1 is always close by.

  1. TAD Gear (Triple Aught Design) Intercept PD Pants in Black Denim

Nick’s go to pair of trousers for work. They not only look very smart, they are extremely comfortable. If you are going to be spending long 8+ hour days in a pair of trousers then these are probably one of comfiest pairs you’ll have worn.

  1. Spyderco delica 4 (Flat ground)

If you know or have spoken to Nick you’ll know that he’s a huge Spyderco fan. His go to locking folder is this the Delica 4. It’s VG10 Stainless Steel blade with a full flat grind makes it ideal for most household cutting chores. The backlock design also secures the blade in position, ideal for more heavy duty tasks, especially in the garden.

  1. Spyderco Tri-Angle Sharpmaker

Nick likes it so much he has two. One for work, one for home. Knives and tools all get the Sharpmaker treatment. It works a treat, and if you’ve ever spoken to Nick about knife sharpening he will swear by the Tri-Angle sharpmaker.

  1. Spyderco UKPK

Goes pretty much everywhere with him. If it’s not clipped into his pocket it is in his hand being used to cut open boxes, open envelopes, cut cord and string amongst other things. There is nothing he dislikes about this knife and if you are looking for an EDC knife then the Spyderco UKPK will be the first one he recommends!
