Description

The Böker Plus XS OD scores with a one-handed operation, a slipjoint mechanism, olive-coloured G10 scales on both sides and a reversible clip (l/r). The unusually strong spring for a slipjoint provides a high degree of handling safety even without a lock. The gray, PVD-coated 440C blade with stonewash finish has a generously riffled thumb ramp, and together with the textured handle scales provides plenty of control for any cutting chore. The deep index finger groove not only gives additional support, but also offers the option to choke up on the knife or to hold it regularly, providing an even greater range of uses. An ideal companion, anytime - anywhere.

Have the black one and it is my favourite EDC. Clips nicely on the inside of my jeans pocket and is easy to pull out and open in one go. Has a great sounding click when it opens. (Posted on )
Good knife and a warningReview by

I have had this knife in black for long enough to fully assess it now and I am very impressed with it especially for the money, when one considers that a Spiderco UK is about £70 and this one is about £47. This knife is far more robust than the Spiderco and is less likely to close on one's fingers. The comment made in an earlier review about the back spring seems to have been fixed in mine, however one can still push it closed with a fore finger so legally it shouldn't be mistaken for a lock knife.
I put this on the black handle version so I suppose I ought to put this on for the green as well for buyer's benefit, as I had not come across this before, but I guess it is common sense.
WARNING - As Hennies put on their site themselves about UK carry knives, do not take this to places in which really a knife is not appropriate, such as a pub or club, or wave it around or show it to friends in public.
It has come to my notice that this has lead to an incident of a person being arrested and the knife confiscated, the police were not friendly about it at all, and the desk Sergeant declared it to be a lock knife, which clearly it isn't, but none the less the person lost the knife and narrowly escaped being charged with possession of an offensive weapon.
So BEWARE my advice is to bear in mind where you carry any UK friendly knife and don't show it in off in public, people are likely to over react very badly in current national circumstances.
Otherwise we will find these type of knives banned as well, which would be another kick in the stomach for us law abiding owners.

I have owned quite a few folding knives, most of them more expensive than this. I would still pick this as the best all rounder I own.

Nice ergonomics, good blade & definitely worth the price.

I have just bought this knive for work, i did find the thump screw to be not needed. It does come with an allen key and the paperwork that comes with the knive says to use the allen key to remove the thump screw. But all tou have to do to remove it is just unscrew it. The blade is nice and sharp. Good grip and solid back spring. Brilliant service feom heinne haynes. Overall a good legal carrry knive. (Posted on )

I'd say this could potentially be the perfect UK edc knife.

Good looking, decent steel, nice g10, feels good in the hand, removable clip, decent thumb stud, stiff back spring but not too bad, and good value.

But it does seem to want to pick up rust spots on the blade though after just looking at the rain. Which confuses me a little as my high carbon knifes appear more rust resistant at this point :-( I'd dread to think what it would look like if I didn't dry it after use.

I don't really want to go at the blade with steel wool either and ruin the finish.

Apart from that its a potentially excellent knife.

Ok, after spending a silly amount of time researching UK legal carry pocket knives it came down to the Boker XS or the UKPK as I did want one-handed opening.

Having been lucky enough to handle the UKPK (not impressed) I took the plunge on the XS. Great decision.

It's manufacture is of obvious quality for a production knife with great G10 scales and an excellent finish on the blade.

Fit... well it's my first knife with a finger choil and I'm sold. It just feels right in your hand.

Weight, it's no feather but perfectly reasonable for EDC. Infact it's one of the things I like the most, you know you haven't got a toy in your hand.

As for the lockup and one handed opening well I'm no gym bunny but I found it easy enough from the first try. A steady push against the thumb stud pushes the blade out to the 90 degree stop where further pressure keeps it going until full lockup which sounds great. It's a firm 'thunk' and you know that blade isn't closing on you as your finger has naturally fallen into the choil position already. Closing one hand is possible, just think about what you're doing and you won't hurt yourself.

As for the legal aspect and appearance. It's a tool, use it as one and hopefully you won't have any problems. I work in London every day in a 'suit' environment and yes, admittedly I've received raised eyebrows when pulling this bad-boy out to use - but I got the same reaction with a SAK Spartan. Most folk don't carry knives anymore, adverse reactions are the norm.

Price wise, well you get what you pay for and this is well worth it in my opinion. So much so that come next payday I'll be ordering another as backup - I lose things often!

P.S. This was out of stock when I first went to order, Hennie mailed me when stock came in and delivery was immediate as requested - 5 star service!

Dependable EDC bladeReview by

This is my favourite UK legal EDC single blade folder.

The blade is 440C which isn't new or exotic, but is a very good steel, hence its ubiquitousness. The XS comes extremely sharp out of the box, with a toothy belt edge. I was more than a little surprised at just how keen its edge was, combined with it's geometry, the XS makes a superb cutting tool.

The grip is grippy, but not like sandpaper, so won't tear up your hand or pocket. The pocket clip is stiff at first, but once loosened up, will hold the knife firmly without being a pain to clip or pull out.

The finish is durable. The blade sharpens to a nice mirror edge.

The back spring is strong, and stiff at first. Once it wears in, you can very comfortably deploy one handed (You will be able to do this from the start but it is a little uncomfortable at first). The blade has a half open resting point of 90 degrees which I find adds an additional layer of safety in lieu of having no blade lock. The forward choil is also very comfortable, and reassuring while controlling the blade, and preventing accidental closure,

I own a Benchmade 940 (which I love). When I reach for a knife to perform a task I am embarrassed to say (as the 940 costs about x3 the price) , I find myself grabbing the XS more often (as it's good, and probably because I carry it every day).

All in all a great tool. In terms of UK legal EDC, I also own a superb Spyderco UKPK FRN Leaf Flat Grind, but I like the Boker XS just slightly more.

Hope this helps!

This knife is a great choice and I will tell you why..

It is more secure by way of it's design. The knife gives the user a more controlled and safer choke up which other knives do not offer. It makes all the difference and feels the most secure knife out of all the legal u.k. carry knives.

Other than that, it's smooth and well built. Edge retention is not great but it sharpeners quite nicely... Not too difficult to open with 1 hand (using the thumb) but the stiffness provides better security anyway.

The stone wash finish is really quite beautiful as it wears with use.

strong backspringReview by
It's a nice knife, which feels good in the hand.

Due to the strong backspring, the knife is hard to deploy with just one hand. I strongly recommend using both hands, I got cut badly, as the blade snapped back.

It is shaving sharp out of the box.

Love the Black XS had one for years when I seen this jumped at the chance lovely frindly non aggressive blade, grip is superb, blance blade gemotery and fit and finish is top notch. I see Chris has a rust issue, I have many bead blast finish knives and have come accross thuis before and found it it is due to the manufaturing process, (it wipes off) Cheers HH (Posted on )

I wanted to update my review to indicate that there are rust-like markings on the blade after a couple of months, and it has been kept in the same drawer as a number of other knives, none of which are marked., including others made of 440c steel also.

FYI, still like the knife and would recommend it, but this is a rust bucket in waiting, IMO.

Very impressed with this. Feels very nice and solidly put-together, and I love the handle colour and blade wash. I own the UKPK and the UKPK drop point as well, and this is as good as the original UKPK for edc purposes.

This and the two Lanskys are the only two EDC knives I would consider taking as a field backup. I would never use the Lanskys as actual EDCs, as they are so aggressive looking, so Boker have done extremely well here under massive constraints.

Excellent EDCReview by

I have to open a lot of boxes and other packages at work and I'm always hunting around for a knife or a pair of scissors. So I decided that an EDC knife would be a handy tool to keep clipped in my pocket. After looking at lots of options I chose this knife due to it having some really nice features. I really like the finger choil as it allows you to get a secure and safe grip and good control of the cutting edge. The jimping provides some extra grip for your thumb, allowing you to safely apply some extra pressure for cutting tougher materials.

The folding action is stiff but smooth which is what I wanted. The blade stays firmly closed when not in use and stays quite firmly open during use. As the finger choil is in front of the folding pivot, your index finger also helps to prevent the blade from closing during use, giving you more confidence. Due to the stiffness of the folding mechanism, the blade is difficult to open one handed with the thumb stud, making the thumb stud a bit pointless. So if one handed opening is a requirement for you then this knife isn't a good option.

At 3mm thick the blade looks robust and should last a long time if used sensibly and looked after. The blade has really nice smooth, matt grey finish that gives the knife a nice modern and functional look. The handle feels comfortable in the hand, has good grip and looks and feels robust, with a functional aesthetic. The grey and green colour theme works really well and looks equally at home with a pair of blue jeans as it would with camo gear etc. Personally I think this colour theme is a great choice if you want an EDC knife that will fit in with a wide range of outfits and situations. A fully black version is available but I felt that this looked too "tactical" and threatening, making it likely to draw attention for all the wrong reasons. It may be a good option if you wear a lot of black though.

The only negative point I've found so far is that due to the position and height of the thumb studs the knife can be a little tricky to quickly clip to the edge of a pocket it you want the knife inside your pocket. This is because the thumb stud easily snags on the pocket edge. So as the thumb stud is a bit pointless I feel that the knife would actually be better without it. The knife comes with a tool and instructions for removing the thumb stud and/or moving the belt clip to the other side. However, as far as I can see it's not actually possible to remove the thumb stud on this model as there is no visible screw securing it. Unless I've missed something.

If I could rate this product 4 and a half stars I would. If the thumb stud didn't get in the way it would get an easy 5 stars stars from me. At £39.95 I feel this knife offers good value for money and an excellent set of features. I would highly recommend it.

SUPERB ALTERNATIVE Review by
10 10
Rating
This knife has all the attributes of the regular 2nd generation XS, but with a superb stonewash finish on the blade. The images cannot do justice to the PVD stonewash coating . The stonewash is replicated on the pocket clip and the backspring. Usual niggles with the XS - ie pocket clip a bit too rigid, and although somewhat better than the first generation, the blade offers a little resistance when opening (until "broken in"). The O.D. G10 is a great alternative for me. The great thing is that you have everything that the "regular" XS offers, but in my opinion, it has a far less intimidating appearance. (Posted on )

Hi. Are the dimensions of this knife the same as the original xs? Can blades, bolts, scales be swapped between old xs and this model? Thanks.
A:
The dimensions are the same so theoretically all parts should be interchangeable

Is there any way to remove the thumb stud on this model? There doesn't seem to be a hole for any removal tool.
A:
Hi Craig....yes you're right there is no hole to accommodate a tool so the thumb stud is not going to be easily removed

3 inches is 7.62 cm - but you say the blade length is 7.7cm. Are you sure this is UK legal carry? Is your measurement just the cutting edge?
A:
The blade length on this knife is 7.7cm but the cutting is less than 7.62cm (3") and it is the
cutting edge that is measured.
