Cold Steel Finn Bear

Cold Steel Finn Bear

£17.95

Description

Reflecting the best of its Finnish heritage, the Cold Steel Finn Bear is ideal for use in the great outdoors, and makes an efficient utility knife as well!

Its sub-zero quenched German 4116 Stainless blade is hollow ground and given an RC of 56-57 so it will hold its edge well while remaining easy to re-sharpen in the field.

The Finn Bear has a sturdy point for piercing and plenty of belly for skinning and carving. It’s big and strong enough to skin large game, yet thin and delicate enough to slice a tomato or cut an apple.

The durable Polypropylene handle has a modified diamond cross-section that will fit your hand like a glove and accommodate a wide variety of gripping methods. To carry your knife safely and conveniently in the field, Cold Steel include a pouch-style versatile low profile polymer sheath that can be easily worn on a belt or tucked into your pack or tackle box.

  1. Great knife, better serviceReview by

This is a really nice knife. Steel seems decent, came shaving sharp. Finish on the knife is great. The sheath is also really slim and sleek, especially when compared to a mora, which is a similar size knife. Great to chuck in a backpack. The grip shape is a little weird but when I got used to it it feels great.
Also as an afterthought, Royal Mail screwed up my delivery so I contacted support. A replacement was dispatched and received in less than 24 hours of me submitting my issue. That is some stellar customer service!

  2. Alternative to the Mora Review by

If like me, you prefer hollow ground knives, but like the puukko style, this is a great blade.
While It is very cheap, that shouldn't put you off as it cuts through wood, like butter.
It's a good companion to a larger blade or a hatchet because it's thin blade allows you to perform the daintier tasks around camp.
Just get it, you'll love it!

  3. Not as good as hopedReview by

The handle is a rather odd shape, and didn't fit my large hand very well.
Steel held a good edge, and as a cheap knife for odds and ends its good.
However if you are looking for a heavy user I would go for a mora companion

  4. Good sizeReview by

+Surprisingly good steel for the price.
+Super sharp and makes feathersticks great.
+ the kite shaped handle is really nice to hold
+ really grippy plastic (handle might look rubber, it isn't. it's hard plastic)
+ no finger choil or anything in the way of holding it all kinda ways.

The last point is interesting. If you need a knife with good reliable finger shaped grip, don't buy this. If you need a knife for whittling and feathersticking and generally doing fine things with wood, where you'll be using both hands tightly together and not swinging it around, this one is great.

Also, and here's the main reason I bump it to 5 stars: the blade when sheathed is really quite slim and narrow.

    Surprisingly so.

If you know the typical mora sheath shape, this is not like that at all. Functionally, yes, but it's so much narrower, which makes it much much nicer to carry and stow. So that's a big selling point to me.

  5. Great knife if a bit odd.Review by

Thanks HH for great service as usual.
This knife has an odd shaped handle which feels a bit strage on fist use but it has grown on me, as with use it seems to be the right grip for whatever I am doing. Plenty sharp OTB and looks to be easy to sharpen.
