Cold Steel Pipe Hawk

Cold Steel Pipe Hawk

Do you prize the look and authentic lines of a traditional Pipe Hawk, but have little use for the hollow bowl and the strength-compromised, drilled-out wooden "smoking" handle? Well here's a Pipe Hawk without those disadvantageous features. Precision forged from 1055 carbon steel, the Pipe Hawk offers a long, reasonably wide cutting edge and a solid, fully hardened hammer poll that's turned and ribbed to mimic a hollow pipe bowl. Fitted with a 19" hickory handle and weighing approximately 26 ounces it's heavy enough to be brutally effective as a chopping tool plus its solid bowl will drive nails, spikes and stakes with the power of a framing hammer.

  1. Novelty AxeReview by
Have had this for years & it really isn't all that useful. It's Light weight goes against it for any kind of proper chopping/cutting & even for splitting tinder the awkward shape doesn't do anything to help. Good for throwing & having as a novelty type * that i will never use unless "The walking dead" becomes a reality. I have a swedish hand forged woodsman axe as well which i use nearly every day. The difference is like night & day! (Posted on )
  2. Poor edge, poor…Review by
Poor edge, poor grind(flat) nasty paint on the head, nasty varnish on the handle. Poor fit on the handle with a grub screw. Out of the box its not a nice tool at all. However, it is carbon steel so you can re-profile it with a convex grind and a nice polished sharp edge. I have removed the paint too added protection with rust bluing, fitted the head to the handle properly without need for a grub screw. Sanded the handle finish away and applied linseed. Its not good value considering the work that you have to put into it for it to look decent and work well. Although if you have all the tools you need to sort it out it is a cheapish way of getting a decent hawk. Not forgetting its a nice little project for a couple of evening. (Posted on )
