CRKT Minimalist Wharncliffe

CRKT Minimalist Wharncliffe

Alan Folts is a knifemaker and metalworker in Greenville, N.C., who makes a remarkable range of custom objects, including titanium chopsticks. His Minimalist™ neck knife has proven to be very popular. Here is a very small and lightweight knife which gives surprising comfort and control, thanks to the unusual geometry of the full-tang 2.0" Wharncliffe blade, aided by three finger choils, hand-contoured green/black Micarta® scales, and a braided fob.

The Minimalist comes with a custom-fitted Zytel sheath and neck paracord for inverted carry as a neck knife. Because the knife and sheath weigh only 1.6 ounces together, it is a personal carry you will barely notice. Unlike many small neck knives, this handle is really functional for a wide variety of daily cutting tasks, while the Razor-Sharp straight edge is perfect for scraping, woodworking and precision carving.

  1. Blade is good Product is not fit for EDC useReview by
I have now had two of these knives and on both occasions the knife has fallen out if the sheath when around my neck. The knife itself is of good quality and I like the handle. But you cannot call this and EDC neck knife when it is not fit to be worn around the neck everyday. It is not a cheap product for what it is but I dont expect to be loosing it when carrying it in the way it is intended to be carried. Overall very disappointed with this product. (Posted on )
  2. Great knife Review by
Fantastic knife, sharp blade, handle looks odd in the photos but fits the hand nicely, good solid neck sheath. No issues with the price. Top service from Heinnie. (Posted on )

  4. Best knife I ever boughtReview by
This thing is brilliant. Just brilliant.

I work as a labourer/handyman in a furniture shop, which involves a lot of cutting tasks - tape, cardboard, cable ties, bubble wrap, cling film, you name it. Nothing too heavy duty, but there's plenty of it.

I hated the chore of digging a knife out of my already stuffed pockets, and I didn't want to use a pocket clip or belt knife because of the fear of it scratching tables or other furniture on the shop floor as I walk past. A nice, thin, light neck knife was just what the doctor ordered, and the Minimalist was the perfect cure.

Slim, c*le (so the customers don't think I'm there to m*r them), and super easy to deploy, use, and replace one-handed whilst carrying stuff; this knife does everything I could want.

The closest thing to a negative I could give would be the steel, as although it's perfectly useable, you can definitely feel it getting blunt after a few weeks, but that's why I went with the Wharncliffe blade shape - a straight edge is so easy to sharpen, and a few minutes on a stone gets this thing back to the razor sharp edge it had when it came out the box.
Another slight negative I would give would be the retention in the sheath. After about 7 months of being pulled out dozens of times a day, I must admit that the retention of the knife in the sheath has less of the 'click' it did when it came out of the box. It still hangs in there though, but maybe not as solidly as I'd like. That being said, I'm pretty sure there are ways to slightly remold the sheath with heat, which might be something I'll look into in the near future.

Other than these small niggles, there's no real reason to not buy it - it's slim, sharp, light, ergonomic, and doesn't break the bank. Of course, the handle style is a very subjective preference, but I find it perfect for lighter tasks. For heavy cutting, I'd rather have a 4-finger grip, and something that fills the palm a bit more, but this thing is fine for me, and if you've read all the way down to here, you're probably the right person for it too.

Signing off, I must thank Heinnie for their great service, and although it wasn't in stock for a few weeks after the purchase, they shipped it as soon as they got it, so no complaints there!

  5. Excellent neck knife for small tasksReview by
I have all three of the Minimalist range. All I can say is I am very pleased with the fit finish and quality of theses knives and at an excellent price range too. They were sharp when they arrived, but a bit of a going over they are now like razors.

Heinnie did an excellent job as usual in getting them to me in double quick time with no hassles at all. Thanks to you all there. :-)

Little slice of perfection! Razor sharp. Mr Folts is a genius. . Top service HH. (Posted on )
  7. Cute Little Fruit KnifeReview by
Bought to replace a Spyderco Bug that I snapped the point off. (Abused it opening a tin of paint). Was going to get a Kiwi but glad I got this instead. For one thing it's warmer than the cold steel Spydies when hung round the neck because the sheath & handles cover the cold steel. Was doubtful about the sheath but it grips strongly & seems like it'll last well. Arrived shaving sharp & quickly. (Posted on )
  8. The Canine's TesticlesReview by
A great little knife for neck carry. All the reviews are right that the design is litterally the dogs boll**ks.
Another critical part of this purchase that should also be considered as the Canine's testicles was the amazing service from Heinnie, you lot show how it can and should be done!

  9. CRKT mINIMALISTReview by
This little knife is certaily well designed the small handle fits nicely in the hand with its short lanyard giving the extra length. The kydex sheath is tight fitting and safe. The blade was not very sharp but once sharpened it is as it should be. Great for whittling! As usual great service from Heinnie (Posted on )
  10. Great little knifeReview by
Very well designed and strong little knife. My one came with a good sharp edge. Very comfortable in the hand too. (Posted on )
  11. When did CRKT start doing butter knives?Review by
Seriously CRKT your quality control is way below what it should be.

This is a cracking design and feels great in hand, but OTB it was as blunt as a dinner knife... no, REALLY!

Anyway, a few strokes on a stone and it's now as it should have been.

Fact is though, I really like it and if you can sharpen, then buy it.

    Hennie great as always.
