Down Under Toothpick

Down Under Toothpick

Now here's something a bit special: with a nice range of hunting knives and quick, agile blades already in production, Down Under set out to prove that size and finesse aren't mutually exclusive. Nothing says it better than James Black's ageless Arkansas toothpick designs - knives with unparalleled reach and potential, while sacrificing nothing in speed, utility and precision.

Down Under took the basic concept and gave it their trademark touch of classic styling and modern durability, with rust resistant materials and tough leather that feels as good as it looks. This isn't a replacement for a crowbar or an axe - it's a knife with the heft to get stuff done and the balance to make that weight all but disappear in your hands when you pick it up. They haven't gone overboard with cutting edges five inches off the centerline and sharp corners all over the place, opting instead for a classic style that feels like it was molded to your hand and gives no surprises when you connect with something. For a finishing touch, Down Under gave it an extra large, distinctively styled handguard and ricasso that give you real options between extreme reach and maximum agility.

Delivered with an antique look black-brown scabbard with classic old western style floral pattern, this knife proudly shows off its heritage and won't look out of place on any old west aficionado's gunbelt or as part of a modern hunter's toolkit.

  1. Great knife and serviceReview by
I have the Down Under Outback which a very nice knife, dull as a butter knife out of the box though. So I was prepared for the same with the Toothpick, but it was paper cutting sharp out of the box.
The blade is faultless, and having watched a you tube video on a knife maker taking a blade from dull to mirror finish, I know that there are hours of work and many stages to the process. So I think that it is very good value for money. I am surprised that they haven't increased in price yet with the pound devaluation., no doubt they will in due course.
The knife is well balanced and feels light in the hand especially considering the amount of metal weight in it., the grip fits the hand perfectly. I am very pleased with my purchase.
A brilliant service from Hennies as always who are my only supplier of knives and equipment these days, service that you can trust is worth returning to.

This fine knife looks and feels like you can spike someone to the wall with it, I didn't try..but it is really a long knife.
very well made, great looks, real sharp, fine sheath, it's presented as a fighting knive, which isn't my thing,
I'm also not a hunter, just a collector of fine, well made knives. It's 1 of my 6 Down Under knives.
It would be a great hunting knife of course, like most of this brand.

Quality of finish on my particular knife lets it down for me, for the price I didn't expect to be buffing out imperfections on the blade or cleaning up sloppy finishing on the brass.. Out of the box it looks impressive enough but the fine detail really lets it down, so unless you're really keen to own one like myself and are prepared do use some elbow grease to get a better finish on the metalwork, particularly the blood grooves where my knife is slightly pitted then spend your money elsewhere as this is not a cheap knife. Down Under knives outsource the manufacturing of their knives to Asia so it might be wise to bear this in mind if you're looking for a quality finish.. In their defence; I also own the Outback Bowie which is mint, the finish is what you would expect when paying ú140+ for a knife, let alone ú170+ This knife is overpriced for what it promises in the advertising so think twice before buying is my advice....
