Fox Suru UK Heinnie® Edition Black

Fox Suru UK Heinnie® Edition Black

£159.95

Description

The Fox Suru is a knife with an excellent pedigree having won the 2018 Overall Knife of the Year at that years BLADE show over in Atlanta. You can tell at a glance that this knife is something special. On closer inspection, you’ll realise that the Fox Suru carries the “Vox” logo, a sure sign that it has been designed by Jesper Voxnaes. An item by VoxDesign is always going to be good, and you’ll see his work reproduced by Boker, Spyderco, Viper, Helle and Fox Knives.

We liked the Suru too, liked it a lot, but there was one element not quite right. The flipper on the original design meant that the knife would soon not conform to UK knife law. All was not lost however as, after some negotiation with Fox, we got together to create this, the flipperless, non-locking, UK friendly carry Fox Vox Suru. We were delighted – it’s an excellent adaptation of a superb, award-winning knife.

The flipperless UK friendly Suru is available with black PVD Titanium handle with a choice of blue or bronze pins and pocket clips. They have a stonewashed blade of Bohler-Uddenholm M390 super steel, which is renowned for keeping an excellent edge with great corrosion resistance. In the hand, it feels great, with the holes adding lightness and somehow enhancing the feel of the knife. Here’s yet another Heinnie® favourite folding knife to add to the list – the Fox / Vox / Heinnie Suru UK edition

3.5 star here. I'm going full critical. Having had it over a month now I haven't been wowed. Firstly it looks great and has the materials, that's what drew me to it. But it's really small , in blade and handle sizes, and with the curve of the blade its hard to make use of the full cutting area. Mine went from decent factory sharp to losing it a bit fairly quick, like a few cuts.
Then there is the cost, I feel there is more out there with similar blade metal and handle materials for better dimensions and less cost.
Lastly the finish on the blade will scuff leaving polished scrapes showing on the blade.

Fits great in the pocket, razor sharp out of the box, great detent, perfect "not *******" size and look, incredible materials, this knife is a complete steal for the price, only one issue that lost it a star, mine had a printing error on the clip side blade text, it cuts off oddly at the bottom, not a real issue but disappointing nonetheless on an otherwise exemplary piece. By far my best EDCReview by

Ordered the black and bronze version and as others have said it is an absolute stunner. The dark bronze hardware really pops against the matt black frame.

The knife feels solid and well made in the hand and when open it sits perfectly with a full 4 finger grip.

The ball detent lock is not particularly strong (although stronger than the Bean Gen 2 and Liong Mah #5) but the well placed finger choil prevents the blade going to far so no worries with cutting myself.

The M390 blade came hair popping sharp out the box and a few stokes on on an ultra fine stone followed by a stop with some compound made its screaming sharp. Not had the chance to test durability of the blade yet but have no doubt the steel will live up to the hype.

Only thing i would change about this knife is the addition of some gimping on the spine of the blade. The finger choil hold naturally results in your thumb sitting on the back of the blade so some gimping would help make this feel more reassuring.

All in all a absolute cracker, if you're on the fence just do it as you will not regret it!

Still only four starsReview by

So, here I am writing a second review of the HH Fox Suru.

My previous review showed that I had some issues with the Suru. After a couple of weeks of ownership the initial stiffness in the action had disappeared, but the amount of blade play had become unacceptable, so after emailing HH I sent the knife back for a replacement.

A couple of days later I had a call (from Richard I think, but I was driving, so my attention was not fully on the call). Anyway, the message was that the pivot screw on the knife was really loose – which HH had seen before – so they had tightened it, added some ‘Locktite’ or similar, and all was well. And before someone says ‘idiot’, in my defence, I did say to HH (and in the previous review) that I was reluctant to disassemble the knife having read the warranty information.

So, the knife is back. However, I still don’t think it deserves five stars – unlike HH who really deserve six. Richards comment was that the knife is now as I received it, and it is. Unfortunately this means that it is still very stiff to open (just about a one-handed operation) still has a very weak detent, and obviously still lacks a half stop. I’m not going to bang on about the non-reversible clip, which is just a feature of the design. But overall I still think this knife only rates four stars. Sorry, but for a UK legal EDC I still prefer my Bestech Junzi.

Once again, fantastic customer service from HH.

Simply a great little knife. Review by

First the good part. This little knife, bronzed colour variant is Iovely looking (almost work of art) that sits in the hand really well. I have reasonably big hands, and although it is fairly small , I can get a four finger grip on the knife, three on the handle, and the index finger snug the blade recess. Not the strongest open position for a non locking knife, I have a Manley Wasp which is really so strong in the open position , almost seems locked. The Fox Suru was purchased as a present, so I may have to get myself one. I choose the bronze colour as I thought it looked a little less showy than the blue highlighted one, but am sure both are great options. Personal taste I think bronze one is a more subtle combination of colours and more refined.

The bad part, UPS badly let Heinnies down, my purchase went on a tour, via Ireland, to get to East Anglia. It took over a week to arrive. Heinnies dispatched it promptly. UPS usual next day delivery never happened. Hopefully a one off .

Just read the most recent four star review and really surprised by the stiffness and side to side play maybe just got a lemon.

I got mine yesterday and it's very easy to open with hand snaps into place by using the thumb hole. To close I can push down hard on top of the blade with my index finger and then use the rest of my fingers/palm to close it with the one hand.

I also have no movement/play anywhere. I have gone over it trying to find an imperfection and I can't find one the overall finish is fantastic and everything sits perfectly. Before purchasing I was looking up for any issues and the only one I came across was the standard non UK spec Suru where the tip was not symmetrical when looking from above, I also have no issues with this.

Maybe buy the Bestech Junzi instead?Review by

This review has been evolving over the course of a couple of weeks since the knife arrived. I bought the black and bronze version for several reasons. It’s UK legal, looks interesting, and has a great specification. but the main reason is that I suspect that this may become a bit of a collector’s item in years to come. Who knows?

The knife is really nicely packaged, with a zipped leather pouch to keep it in – which kind of suggests that you’re not going to be using it – but it would make a nice present! It came shaving sharp, but very, very stiff to open – in fact it actually squeaked when I opened it, although I thought there are supposed to be some bearings or washers in there somewhere. It was so bad that I seriously considered returning it to HH, but soaking it in WD40 improved it. Having read the warranty information I really didn’t want to disassemble it, so I continued to play with it to see if it improved. After two weeks it is getting there. I had previously returned my Bestech Junzi, which was completely painless (you can read the review) but I didn’t really want to do it again.

Compared with the aluminium handled frame-lock versions, this version of the Suru wins hands down on looks – I really don’t like the ‘tumbled’ look, which to my mind just makes the knife look really scruffy. If I had unlimited funds I would buy the frame-lock version with the carbon fibre handle and satin finished blade, but that is getting on for £200. However, I really like the look of this black titanium version. One thing worth mentioning is the knifes almost complete absence of gimping, which is not a criticism, but is unusual.

My particular knife has a very small amount of side to side blade play. Added to which, the detent is VERY weak (virtually non-existent) and the lack of a half-stop annoys me and could potentially be dangerous.

My other gripe with this knife is the non-reversible pocket clip – which, to be fair, I knew about before I bought it. Being left handed, a reversible clip is always nice to see, although generally speaking I don’t swop them over. I know this particular clip is curved, and therefore a bit more problematic, but if Cold Steel can supply a second, left handed, curved clip with their American Lawman, why not do the same? Interestingly, the aluminium frame-lock version of the Suru has a straight wire clip, similar to the Spyderco offering, but it’s still not reversible, whilst the carbon fibre handle version has the same curved clip as this HH UK version.

I would probably have awarded the knife 3 stars on delivery. Now, overall, the knife has just scraped a 4-star rating. But if you are looking for a UK legal EDC then I would suggest that the Bestech Junzi is a far better choice for only an extra £10.00 or £20.00, offering a slightly larger frame with a longer blade, less weight, better ergonomics, safer operation (thanks to a half-stop and stronger detent) easier opening (thumb studs rather than a thumb hole) and a choice of colours. Oh yes – and a reversible clip!

Super-fast delivery from HH as always.

Anyone on the edge of pulling the trigger on this knife. My advice to you is just do it.
This is a great little edc knife, and disappears in the pocket. Just holding it puts a smile on your face. I can see this being at the front of my rotation for a long time. The black on bronze is just phenomenal and top quality fit and finish by Fox knives. Thank you Heinnie for bringing it to the market and the great service.

This is the first reasonably sized ball detent retention knife that I have owned, the others I have are things like Fura and Kershaw's PUB. The system works very well indeed on the Fox, not enough retention to make anyone think it's a lock knife but enough that it doesn't feel like it's going to close on your fingers. Super smooth to open and close too, not a thumb ripper like other non locking knifes, the Boker slippy springs to mind there lol. The fit and finish are top notch too, very similar to my sage 2 I would hazard. Fox and Heinnie have really got it right with this (currently) UK friendly folder. (Posted on )

I thought my Bestech Junzi was good, but these boys are the business.
Titanium and M390 on a sub £200 knife is good. To get something of this quality that you can actually carry. WOW!
