Description

Ganzo knives are relative newcomers to the knife manufacturing scene but have already made a significant stirring in the minds of avid knife collectors, enthusiasts and users.

Not only do they produce knives of significant quality but the prices are extraordinarily affordable. Consider the list of features of this, the Ganzo 717; 440C stainless steel blade, beautifully centred into the handle, dual thumbstud, secure G-lock mechanism, solid G10 handle, pocket clip. Plus the build quality and attention to detail is excellent.

You could happily estimate that a knife with such features would cost you aroung £60 to £80. But no....check it out for yourself and be prepared for a lovely surprise!

This model is a nicely streamlined design with a contoured G10 handle in a choice of coyote or orange

  1. Good but not great Review by

I bought this knife in the Coyote handle finish around 5 months ago. For £33 you can’t really go wrong! The ‘axis lock’ is solid and deployment is amazingly smooth for a knife of this price point. The handle is relatively comfortable and the clip is sturdy. Now the bad points IMO: The weight is a little much, but that’s due to the full liners. The jimping is purely decorative as it provides no grip at all. The finish on the blade is a little naff if you ask me, not a fan of that at all. The worst thing for me though is the grind angle on the blade. I cannot stress how bad this is. The thickness of the blade does not warrant the angle of the micro bevel, it is far too steep and turns this from what would be a really nice slicer into something that’s really not. The fit and finish is really good and as I said earlier the smoothness is second to none. To finish up - would I buy it again? No. Do I regret my purchase in the first place? Again no. It’s worth a look but don’t think that it’s going to be a knife for life (Posted on )
  2. Great Knife overall, with a few notesReview by

The 717 in my opinion is a solid knife. It’s rare to see an axis lock on a knife under £80, and there’s a lot of attention to detail in this knifes construction. At first, deployment is a little stiff, as is closure, however this breaks in quickly with the help of a little lubricant. Out of the box, the knife is sharp, but definitely not the sharpest factory edge i’ve ever seen. Again, rectified with a strop very easily. The 440c is well treated and easily sharpened to a hair popping edge. The G10 scales are nicely machined, and very tactile. Overall the knife is quite heavy owing to it’s solid stainless liners, which may put some people off, however I quite like it. The spine of the blade is thick, and rounded. It does have jimping, however it’s very shallow and little more than decoration. the handle is comfortable for large hands.
In short, the Ganzo-717 is a very good knife for it’s price and i’d certainly recommend it to those who don’t mind the extra weight.

  3. Heavyweight QualityReview by

I bought a Ganzo 7453 a few weeks back and was impressed with both the quality and the value, so I thought I would give the 717 a try.

Wow, this knife is heavy! This is down to the full stainless liners, rather than just the G10 scales as per the 7453. Personally I think it's too heavy for an EDC, but that's just my opinion.

The 717 is a bit of a first for me, as I have never owned a knife with a stonewash finish on the blade (not sure if I like it or not) or with 'coyote' coloured scales (which I like a lot). Anyway, it's paper slicing sharp OTB, is beautifully put together, and has smooth one-handed opening and a solid lock. I love the curved back to the blade and the minimilistic gimping above the thumb studs. The contoured scales are nice and grippy, but in truth it's not quite as comfortable in the hand as the 7453, which is one of the most comfortable knives I have handled. I find that the inside edges of the liners on this are just a tad too sharp for comfort. Oh yes - and the clip is really savage and will need attention before you can use it.

In summary, a fantastic bit of kit for the money. Also great for left handers like me, with a reversible clip - well done Ganzo! If you like your knives heavy - and I do - you'll love it.

  4. Really niceReview by

Really nice knife. The handle is comfy, just the right size for my hand. Scale colour (khaki) is nicer than I thought it'd be.
Blade perfectly centred, sharp, although I've given it a light hone. Butter smooth opening and closing.
Sliced my cheese and tomatoes for lunch easily. I like the plain blade shape, the satin finish and the rounded spine.
This will be used as a general purpose worker in the kitchen and when out in the countryside, so no worries about it being a locker.
Fit and finish appear perfect, it really does look like a knife that should cost at least £80.
We'll see how it goes over time but at the price I have no qualms, don't dither, if you like it, BUY IT!
