    Gerber Freeman Guide (Fold)

Posted by Alan Walker on 18th Dec 2023

Huge difference between lower & high end Gerbers This knife is solid with a smooth operation, feels very sturdy with loads of grip I've paid a lot more for other knives but this is one of my favourites

Great design knife, superb handle and solid lock....Pity it doesn't come with a wooden handle and different varieties of steel.

    Disappointed with this knife

Posted by Jez on 24th Aug 2017

Firstly Hennie's service is second to none for speed of delivery and personal service. One can pick up the phone and speak to an expert if you need advice, they are excellent I am however disappointed with this knife, beware that it comes in very tough plastic packaging that you can not remove the knife from and try it in the hand without destroying the very thick clear plastic package. So you can't return it because the packaging is damaged beyond being able to be sold again. Normally I would never buy a knife and keep it unless I had had the chance to try it in my hand. All other knives that I have bought come in boxes that can be re boxed and returned if you are not happy with the knife for any reason. This knife is very uncomfortable in the hand, the metal edging is very harsh indeed, even painful.. I thought that the rubber sides would sort that out, but they don't they are way too thin to be of much use. I certainly wouldn't want to do any wood cutting with this, one would need gloves or end up with very sore skin, and that defeats the object of a knife that is designed be at the ready quickly when required, who wants to wear gloves anyway in the UK except in winter. I should have heeded my own thoughts on Gerber knives. I have a Gerber Guardian back up, which is a back up blade or boot knife, it's design and size leaves a lot to be desired, difficult to get a good grip on the handle which is way too small and the plastic guard is too narrow to be any use. I have a Smith and Wesson back up which was £30 and is far better than the Gerber which was £65. Also very poor design on the Gerber sheath means that it rattles loudly, the last thing that one would want if carried in the field as a member of the forces, who do a jump test before going on operations, to see if anything that they are carrying makes noise. The S and W doesn't rattle at all and is a much better design, so I should have learned from that and abandoned Gerber as a brand. The good points about this folder is that it does have a smooth action on opening and has a satisfying click when it locks. However it is dead easy to trap skin between the handle and the blade, and one needs to be conscious of this every time one opens it, to hold it right or you will get some painful trapped skin, not the end of the world, just annoying. The blade was paper cutting sharp out of the box but nowhere near as sharp as my Schrade Titanium frame lock, which has a very nice feel to it in the hand, cheaper than the Gerber I would say it is far superior in use. The Gerber blade is dead straight with the handle and seems to be robust as does the whole knife, but if this knife had come in a box and I was able to hold it , I definitely would have sent it back. £35 down the drain but that is life and my lack of judgement. I will never ever buy Gerber products again.

    FREEMAN GUIDE KNIFE

Posted by Robin, clive Bracey on 7th Apr 2013

Ordered this knife from Heinnie Haynes on the of morning 01/07/2013. I have just returned from the habitual morning mountain run and dumped my webbing to be greeted by the factrice. The date 04/07/2013!! That's some going to France. The ratings both for the knife, speed of delivery and the Maxpedition 10x4 water bottle holder all of which come in handy for tomorrows run and ranges. Well done HH.
