Gerber knows being prepared isn’t a state of being so much as a philosophy. Which is why having the right tool on hand is about little things that make the difference.

Sometimes the job’s as simple as cutting twine or slicing open a box, but try those things without a blade enough times and you’ll appreciate the compact efficiency of the Gerber GDC Zip Blade.

Part of Gerber’s Daily Carry collection, this Zip Blade is the bulldog of utility knives. Squat enough to fit in the palm of your hand, it has enough muscle to strip wire, cut cardboard, and slice through toughest of clamshell packaging.

The quick-release clip lets you remove this tool with one hand, leaving your other one free to steady a load or keep things aligned. When open, a frame lock keeps the compact 1.72cm fine edge blade secure, so there’s no wobble when you’re powering through a cut.

A built-in fob lets you attach it to the zipper of your jacket or bag, so it’s close at hand when you need it.

    Minimalist Urban EDC blade

Posted by MyQul on 26th Apr 2019

I love this little thing. I cut the side release\webbing gubbins off, put a lanyard on it and keep it in my pocket. I also sharpened it. But it keeps an edge very well. It's perfect for light urban use such as opening packaging, cutting articles out of newspapers and trimming the stalks from wild picked flowers (all things I've used it for). The zip blade is so unobtrusive and small there's no problem using it in public, even in the middle of London. The price point is good too at just twelve quid (at the time of writing this)

    Very small, but very nice

Posted by Anders on 10th Apr 2014

I but this knife as a little gadget and i thought it would look nice on my Fj¤llr¤ven anorak. I didn't expect very much of the quality and that was probably a good idea. The blade itself came RAZOR sharp! and pooped hairs straight off my arm which i find pretty impressive. The only minor detail that slipped (hence the 4 stars) is the centering of the blade. The lock, which is also very stiff, pushes so hard on the blade in closed position that the blade is pushed of center. But it doesn't, fortunately, scratch the sides of the blade on the frame so not really a problem. It's also worth noticing that it is rather heavy so when you walk it dangles quite a lot so i might consider putting it on my backpack instead. But overall a very nice little knife that more than once have come in handy, so it does what it is supposed to do! All in all i reccomend it :)

    Useful Sharp Thing

Posted by Carl on 6th Jun 2013

As a traveller, having a small sharp edge has come in very useful. When travelling within country abroad, my luggage zips are secured with zip ties, to prevent "accidental opening". This provides an excellent way of cutting them off when arriving at your destination. The locking system ensures the blade doesn't pop out when not required. Don't yet know how well the thread loop will last, hence 4 star, but in all other respects an excellent piece of kit. For all EDC fans, fit to your keyring. For HH, ordered this item late in the afternoon, arrived the following day! Customer service is unrivalled once again, Many many thanks.

    Small miracle

Posted by Aidan Oliver on 28th May 2013

This thing is amazing. Nobody notices it even when it's hanging off your top-pocket zip; probably think it's just a designer logo thing. The teeny little blade is perfect for snipping off threads/string/getting into blister-packs etc. A minor reservation is that it hangs off your zip by a little cord, whose strength is unknown. Also, if it's on a top pocket zip, don't lean forward when enjoying your coffee in a tall glass, or it will end up frothy. Mine did. Nice little tool and, as always, great service.
