Leatherman Charge TTi

Leatherman Charge TTi

Description

When Leatherman made the Leatherman Charge TTi, they knew the Charge AL and ALX were just too hard to beat, so they didn't even try. Instead they simply combined them. But they had to give the TTi its own claim to fame, so in addition to all the other Charge features, Leatherman gave the TTi premium comfort-sculpted titanium handle scales and the S30V stainless steel clip-point knife.

  1. Best multi-toolReview by

Bought my original Leatherman around twenty years ago and after dropping it and breaking off the scissors handle Leatherman replaced it for me at no charge with the updated Leatherman charge TTi which has been used daily for the last few years and with the barest of maintenance is as good today as the day I received it, truly one of the best investments I have ever made tool wise. This really is the daddy of all things sharp and multi-tool.
I've owned mine for, ummm... it's the XTi, so a loooong time.
It's EDC - the only time it's not on me is when I go to a bar.
I work in industry and the amount of times this tool has saved the day is, now, uncountable.
With the bit extender, it can use standard hex bits and that just makes it even better!

I've had the original Leatherman, the Wave and now this. I would be astounded if anyone topped this tool.

I have been lucky to own one these for the best part of ten years i have gone through several leather cases but the tool itself looks like new.
I managed to break the point of the blade trying to lever something but have managed to file it back to a point and I sharpen it on a stone so it is razor sharp the wire cutters are disappointing as others have pointed out but i still use it for wiring jobs and its useful for pinching connectors together so all in all I would give the tool itself 10 out of 10 if I lost it I would pay out for another because it has got me out of trouble so many times I would be lost without it.
I recommend getting a custom belt carry case for it Hennie you need to supply these I would have bought another of the Leatherman Cases but the last one it lasted 2 months and got torn off my belt you get some superb belt cases made from hide that cost @ £60 from the US wish you sold them HH I would have preferred to of bought one from you but you don't give any option other than the £6.95 ones that I not good enough to hold a tool that costs £180.

  4. Brilliant but not perfect. Review by

Im really pleased with this piece of kit but one or two things niggle me.
    1. The blades and other features are really tight. I had an AL before that was much easier to use as everything was very smooth and easy to open one handed.
The tti is really tight and although it maybe just needs slackening off there isnt actually a tool for this adjustment on it or with it.
    2. The grind on the blade is uneven. Its not bad but i know its there. And it was hardly shaving sharp. But nothing a couple of strokes on the diamond sharpener didnt fix. ( no it didn't come with one).
I have the leather sheath which is very well made and allows me to carry a coast g19 torch and a clupper lighter.
One thing i would like to see change is a removable diamond sharpener. Although itcomes with one i cant take it off to sharpen my blade. Which makes it pretty pointless to me.

On a whole i love this product but would just like to to see the others to compare.

A useful tool - in daily use for me. The wire cutters are just about useless but I have never lost any of the driver bits and find the arrangement quite useful. The mini screwdriver flat tip end also is heavily chipped - used on a pair of sunglasses and it simply snapped! Possibly brittle? The most disappointing item is the c***y leather case - be careful if you keep your bit extender in this as after a while the elastic fails and, just when you need the extender....wham, its gone = its slid out passed the stretched elastic side straps. Had mine for what must be ten years or more . A really useful tool and is used almost daily however it has increased in price since I purchased by some considerable amount and I guess I would look at alternatives if it had to be replaced , however quality does cost and if you have the available cash you will be more than happy with this ace tool. Just checked my review date - it was six years ago. My Charge is still going strong.

The scissors are a little blunter (I've been cutting etched brass with them) but still better than most tool's scissors straight from the box. The blades and plier are still great. I have a Leatherman bit extendor in the pouch with my flat bits. This not only gives me (much needed) extra reach for the interchangable screwdriver bits, but also allows me to ue regular bits as wellso that's a superb extra (and should probably come as standar with the tool - especially for £170...)

Yes it is over priced but it is still a gret bit of kit.

  8. Still going strongReview by
I just looked at my review on 2008: 6 years ago. It's still my EDC, it's still an unbeatable bit of kit. I've compared it to lots that I own (including a Surge - good but just too heavy) a Wave and various Gerbers (and SOGs) but this is still the one I will take when there are options but I can only carry one. I carry an extra bit case with a bit extender for extra reach and the flexibility to use 'regular' hex bits, should I have the need. It's hard to see how they can beat it but - I have to say - ú170 or so is not far short of double what I paid about 7 years ago (around ú90, as I recall) (Posted on )

This will answer most tasks you ask of it. Sure it is over priced especially compared to what the Americans pay for it but it is a very decent tool.

The Titanium scales are really for show but the S30V blade is excellent and not as hard to sharpen as people say.

If you don't want the weight of the larger Surge model go for this one.

  10. Latest in a Growing CollectionReview by

Expensive, but a beautiful tool. I have a toolbox drawer full of Leatherman's and can't resist adding another now and then. This one has a great feel to it, and is easy to use, more attractive that some models, but I agree with other reviews that there are better and more functional models for daily or heavy use. The one I keep out and use daily for my hobby (restoring everything from cabinets to old tools), and for my fishing is the Surge. It's exceptional quality and just about bomb proof. Don't let this put you off the Charge TTi though, if you must have the top of the range model, this is it. (Posted on )
  11. not as good as the old wave, but still ok.Review by

Had mine for a few years and I must say its a little disappointing. It is well made, but there have definitely been design changes that have taken Leathermans higher end tools in the wrong direction. Firstly the changeable bits are an appalling idea. Very easily lost and broken. Nothing more annoying than going to use your screwdriver and the bit falls into a dark void never to be found again. flat phillips heads are rage inducingly usless anyway. Also my pliers have bent slightly, although they have had some pretty tough use, and the wire cutters are fairly useless. theyve simply made their tools more fragile and given them part that will go missing, and as such are less dependable. i miss my old wave. I wish they'd just make them again. (Posted on )

Most of you are probably like me. You have a stock of multi-tools that will last you a lifetime but you keep searching for the ultimate tool. Well I've had my Charge for 12 months now & I've not found a better tool. Only tool with scissors & cap crimper. (I think) (Posted on )

  14. wot, no screwdriver bits?Review by

Very high quality tool but you have to buy screwdriver bits separately and, guess what; you can't fit ordinary hex shank bits, only the leatherman ones will fit. Great if you're happy paying 170 quid for a multitool. (Posted on )
  15. Great, but...Review by

This is a small but, but I was a little disappointed with the wire cutters. I have had lesser model leathermans in the past and had no problems with them. The top of the range charge I have has play in the pliers they're not solid as you'd expect...bit annoying, still when I contacted leatherman they were very good and said send it in no trouble (Posted on )

The best of the best! Rarely opened my tool box during 8 month 4x4 trip around australia, used the TTI for almost everything else. Add a L'man p4 and a Vic SAK mini champ for the small tasks and you're set for the full corroboree ! (Posted on )

I have had my Charge TTi for nearly 5yrs to the day, it is my EDC and I am on my third case for it. I am a joiner, an angler, a hunter, camper and all round outdoorsman and use it everyday from work related tasks, even pulling nails with the pliers to cleaning fish and game via cutting and filing my nails!
I have a comprehensive collection of sharp and shiny things including many other expensive pieces and my charge is king! the best.

how big is this compared to the the wave, also is it heavier ?
A:
Hi Shakeel....not a great deal to choose between them for size and weight. The TTi weighs 252g whereas the Wave is 241g. They are the same size although the TTi feels chunkier in the hand
