Description

The requirement of a tough quality knife cannot be underestimated when it comes to survival situations. Any decent bushcrafter or survival expert will have his or her knife at the top of their priority list. When it comes to what sort of knife then personal preference takes over, but the basics; ease of carry, good steel and reliability should be a given.

Maxpedition's range of fixed blade knives have the basics covered and then some. They are available in a variety of blade shapes and sizes. The Fishbelly has a deep bellied curve for a variety of tasks and is available in three different sizes. The blade is D2 tool steel with a hardness of 58-60 on the Rockwell scale, it is double tempered and benefits from a cryogenic heat treatment making it very hard with a high resistance to corrosion. The blade is coated with Industrial hard chrome plating to 1 mil (0.001") over matte bead blast. The grind is full height flat with a 1" curved choil.

The handle is an overmould nylon with EDM texturing with a thong hole sized to allow 1 inch ballistic webbing to pass through. It has a hidden full tang design with 4 keys and 2 through holes for secure integration with molded handle.

It is supplied with a Kydex belt sheath with dual retention lips, stainless steel rivets and lashing holes designed to fit 550 paracord.

This is a very nice product. Beautifully made in Taiwan. That's why it's great value for money. The Maxpedition Large Fishbelly has a blade length of 6.25". It has a matt silver finish. Tough nylon handle, 4.75" long. Stock, 5.5mm. Balance point, at the hilt. Lanyard hole, 8mm. All specs. approx. The bevel has a hint of a convex grind. The FFG blade has a huge choil, and no jimping. It has a quality thick kydex scabbard. The end of the scabbard is open, just like Extrema Ratio. The best drain-port ever. This scabbard offers a firm click-fit, it has very good retention. The kydex belt loop is non-detachable. It is held on by two Philips screws on the out-side. Instead of a metal plate on the inside, there is two individual receivers. I think they have glued them together, or used thread lok from hell. So if I want to fit a Tek-Lok, I have got to drill the screws off. It's a bit mean of them I think. *********************************** (Posted on )
