The benefit of a tough, quality knife cannot be underestimated when it comes to survival situations. Any serious bushcrafter or survival expert will have his or her knife at the top of their list of priorities. When it comes to what type of knife then personal preference takes over, but the basics; good steel, ease of carry, reliability should be a given.

Maxpedition's range of fixed blade knives cover the basics and then some. They are available in a variety of blade shapes and sizes. The Long Clip Point is a hard working tool available in three different sizes. The blade is D2 tool steel with a Rockwell hardness of 58-60, it is double tempered and benefits from a cryogenic heat treatment making it ultra hard with a higher than usual resistance to corrosion. The blade is coated with Industrial hard chrome plating to 1 mil (0.001") over matte bead blast. The grind is full height flat with a 1" curved choil.

The handle is an ergonomic overmould nylon with EDM texturing with a thong hole sized to allow 1" ballistic webbing to pass through. It is a hidden full tang design with 4 keys and 2 through holes for secure integration with molded handle.

It is supplied with a Kydex belt sheath with dual retention lips, stainless steel rivets and lashing holes designed to fit 550 paracord.

    Underrated

Posted by sm on 8th Apr 2023

I bought this because of the controversy and I couldn’t ever afford a Mad Dog knife. It’s really good!! It’s a Glock of the knife world. D2 is probably the most underrated steel ever. I did wrap the handle in tape as it’s a bit smooth. The weird belt sheath is actually really effective, it is big but gives wiggle room that makes it work well. I’m off to buy the geometric version before everyone else ?

Awesome little tool, extremely sharp OTB

Posted by Woodhead on 23rd Apr 2018

I got the 12cm small blade, A great all round knife with awesome D2 steel, it came extremely sharp OTB and is the perfect size for around the camp jobs including food pre, cutting, whittling and preparing snares and traps for catching your food. The handle materials okay and feels solid enough with the full tang, ergonomics are good and when you choke up on the blade if you keep your finger pulled into the lip of the handle and blade you have good control and don't hurt your finger on the rather thin choil towards the front. Great overall for the price

Small solid knife, great edge retention great steel

Posted by Woodhead on 20th Apr 2018

I was gifted the small long clip point and at first glance wasn't overly impressed, however once in hand she is comfortable and ergonomic, but if you have big hands add a lanyard or get the middle size. the blade has great edge retention being D2 Steel and is easily stropped or sharpened if you carry a ceramic stick with you in the field. I've taken the belt loop off and replaced it with a clip that isn't as big and bulky which has made the carry a lot more pleasant. A great overall utility or hunting knife,
