Very nice knife, especially for £7. Mine didn't come particularly sharp out of the box which is slightly annoying but that can be fixed, so no trouble there. There is absolutely no play in mine what so ever while open or closed. I did notice the same issue as a few others have where the hex screws that hold the knife/mechanism are a little chewed up, again slightly annoying but for £7 I can't complain. (Posted on )

Shame it's not UK-EDC legal, but excellent for work around the house....

I love this knife. I have bought several as gift. However in mine the carry clip broke just at the level of the third screw in a typical metal fatigue pattern. When this happened I had a look at the clip and the flexion forces act against the clip at the third screw joint the other two being more for aesthetics than function.

Now it is somewhere around the house for odd jobs,A pity it had potential

Just received my order for under a tenner. This knife will go into my kitchen drawer as an all-round house tool. It feels great in the hand and very solid. A bit stiff at first and the blade ever so slightly off-centre, but this does not worry me as it does not interfere.
It has a reasonable edge out the box, however I will give it a quick once-over on a fine waterstone and then a strop, which I believe will bring it to shaving edge sharpness.
At this price, I see no reason not to recommend it!

Could be betterReview by

I got this and the Schrade Linerlock 205 at the same time, the 205 is much better. The grip on this is shiny and slippery compared to the rubber inlayed handle on the 205 and the thumb stud is too close to the pivot so it's not exactly easy to open one handed.

They're both the same size, the 205 is just better for £3 more.

Both have the same problem with the liner lock, the edge is sharp and the crenelations make it pointy and after a few opens and closes, my meat of my thumb aches.

The blade itself is razor sharp out of the box, it's the handle end which isn't great.

This Knife is fairly solid, you get a lot for less than a tenner. Forget trying to remove the clip as you'll need a star drive and when you find one the screws will round off before you get them out...….. That said it is fairly solid, takes a nice edge and the clip helps you grip it while you do the one handed opening thing. If you want a beater this works very well indeed. Frankly you cant go wrong at this price and as ever Hennie will have it to your door by the next day.

I've given it a five not because it's the best knife in the word but because it's a good functional working knife at a very, very good price.

This knife is easy to open with one hand using the thumb stud on the blade. It has a handy strong pocket clip so it’s not going to fall off your kit or out of your pocket. The blade seems good quality and the blade locks in place with an internal liner lock. Great addition to your go bag, car or camping kit. (Posted on )
A great knife that is also awful. So inconsistent.Review by

First and foremost, pick a number between 1 and 5. That's the real star rating for this review. The reason? QC, and lack thereof.

In theory, this is a very good knife.

In theory it's weighty and satisfying to hold. It's what your average person would think of in a knife shape, very classic in outline, but the handle is neat (the orange is even neater but never on sale) and makes it more interesting. The blade is a darker matt grey and the overall package is sleek and attractive.

In theory the blade itself came sharp out of the box and is a real beater, it retains sharpness well while doing essential knife tasks such as cutting up cardboard, water bottles, aluminium cans and slightly expired fruit in the garden.

In theory it's well constructed, with screws flush, a nice pivot action, openable one-handed with a thumb stud in a satisfyingly cool (and threatening, so not in public thanks) way.

In theory it's a well rounded and very sturdy knife for such a low price.

If you're lucky.

Buying these is a lottery. I've had 3 and I know. The quality control is TERRIBLE. The first one I got was perfect. I ended up handing it off to a friend who just wanted to own a knife (don't ask me what's been keeping his fork company all these years) once I'd drilled knife laws into him to the point of tears. I then bought a second one (they're cheap and take you over the free shipping requirement), which was trash. The screws were wrecked, as they're made of a softer metal than the rest of the knife, and the liner lock felt like it'd fall loose if you sneezed at it. I did not trust that knife, and ended up sacrificing that to some horrific actual work no knife should be asked to do, with it only finally giving up once it was used as a pry bar. I bought a third because I felt lucky, and mostly was. The only hitch is that the initial opening action is incredibly stiff, preventing me opening it one-handed.

So in summary, should you buy this knife?

Well, do you feel lucky, punk? Well, do you? I've never seen something so inconsistently built. The orange handle version sells for £25 and you'd have to be a madman to gamble on that, but at £7 it's the right price for a lucky dip on a knife that could punch above its weight.

Best sub £7 knife?Review by

My guess is that there is no better knife available anywhere at this price, £7 is an absolute bargain. Buy one before they are all gone!

At this price, and reading some other reviews, I am guessing that QC may be a bit hit and miss for the odd buyer, but mine has a perfectly centred blade, zero lateral play when locked and it feels very comfortable in hand, although extending the jimping beyond the thumb rise would have made the grip more secure.

The blade has a lovely mid-grey satin finish and the edge was "factory" sharp, but much improved for 2 minutes on a stone. Opening is smooth and finishes with a satisfyingly secure click from the lock. The handle is so close to black you can forget the dark green in the description.

Its worth the £7 to see just how good a knife CAN BE at this price point!

My first purchase from HH, wont be my last, brilliant service, quick delivery, excellent communications.

I ordered the 221 and its little brother (sister?) for under seven quid each. Sadly, the smaller knife proved to be out of stock. I should have been quicker.
The larger knife arrived quickly, which is par for the course for HH, it must be said.

On opening the padded envelope, there was the Schrade 221 in a blister pack. Once out of the plastic, I found the knife stiff to open - after use that has since become less of a hinderance, although the lightly textured aluminium scales don't always allow slip-free grip if your hands are damp or greasy. The sculptured alloy doesn't give much purchase. However, the build quality of the whole knife is solid, blade lock up is positive by way of the liner lock, blade play is non-existent and a quick stropping gave the edge all the bite it needs, so factory sharpening is good, if not quite shaving sharp.

The pocket clip is tight and allows a fairly low, unobtrusive, tip down carry although this is NOT UK legal carry, so common sense is needed if you plan to take it outside.

For a few coppers under £7 instead of the usual £25-ish, this represents a hell of a good deal. A known name maufacturer, a handful of well made folding knife made of practical materials and it looks nice, too. Can you go wrong? I doubt it for the money.

I wasn’t expecting too much from this knife, given the mixed reviews and the drastic price reduction, but I ordered one to take an order over the £30 mark and get free delivery, and was pleasantly surprised when it arrived. Reading other reviews, the quality control on these knives seems to be a bit hit-or-miss, but I haven’t found any problems with the fit and finish on mine, or chewed-up screw heads etc. The liner lock is solid and there is no play in the blade, either vertically or horizontally. Opening and closing is smooth. This is a relatively large folding knife, with a blade length of around 3 3/8” and a width of 1”. The hollow ground drop point blade is 1/8” thick, and it has a sleek satin finish. It arrived very sharp, and a quick stropping made it extremely sharp. It remains to be seen how well it retains its edge, but it’s started out right.

A couple of negative points – the knife’s size and aluminium handle scales make it quite heavy. It’s more of a belt pouch carry knife than a pocket knife. Those scalloped aluminium scales look cool, but aren’t very grippy (though the jimping on the back of the blade helps), and of course the black finish is going to wear off with use. There’s no lanyard hole, though there’s plenty of space to drill one if required. And the thumb stud and pocket clip are both for right-hand use only, so the clip has joined my growing collection of removed pocket clips – anyone need a replacement? But all in all, I reckon this knife is a real bargain. It’s just as good as other folders I have which cost three or four times as much, and the price means you can use and abuse it without worrying too much.

Mine came hair popping sharp and has a nice needle tip. The mechanism locks up tight. The handles scales are a pleasure to behold an it extends with ease now it's been worn it.

I see why it was reduced though. There were clearly some problems in the factory. The frame wasn't fitting up flush with the sides of the blade and I guess it has washers holding it tight. The grind isn't symmetrical and who evwr assebled it sheared the threds on the bolts holding the frame togwther. Not really £25 worth, but £7? YEA!!!

I don't think you're going to find a better folder for £7, possibly ever. Just buy one. If you don't like it for £7 there's something wrong with you. It's worth three times that. (Posted on )

I wouldn't have paid £24.95 for it! For £6.95 it is worth it! Overall quality is decent, blade comes relatively sharp but edge looks a little burred, the pivot screw on the top of the blade is chewed! Obviously very soft steel compared to the bit that tightened it! Being a chinese made knife I wouldn't have expected BRILLIANT quality but owning various other knives made in china there quality is far superior!

Get one if you want a cheap knife you can take camping and abuse without any care!

Read all the other reviews, as usual the guys on here are great and honest, so it helps greatly. I paid £8 for a knife to beat up on road trips and not worry about if it went missing. So the reviews here set reasonable expectations. It's better than some, I may have got a good one. No blade play, lock up good, bevel and edge terrible and uneven. Screws all good, clip a bit sharp. Handle in heavy tasks not that bad, but not recommended for extended use. Overall a tough work knife that I'm happy to beat up and not get precious about. I used the wicked edge system to change the angle to 23 degrees, reprofiled the entire blade and it now holds its edge perfectly and is razor sharp. I also finished it off with sandpaper to get rid of the sharp edges here and there and on the pocket clip. Been in the garden with it for a few weeks opening cement bags and cutting ropes etc and the edge is holding fine, no other problems to reports so far. Looks like it will last a few seasons so exactly what I bought it for, now in my work bag waiting for its next task. Buy it, beat it, you won't be disappointed. (Posted on )

Would have got 5*'s but for the blade forging. Inside where the blade swivels the forging quality is poor. It doesn't affect the way the knife locks so doesn't really matter but aesthetically it's not perfect.

Functional folder which feels solid and locks properly. It's compact and offers a comfortable enough grip. It has a nice design which looks far better than the price tag would let on. The belt clip is very functional and sturdy. I'm new to this budget steel and can't comment on edge retention and sharpening, but it was sharp enough to get started with out the box. In my opinion this would be an ideal back up blade, utility knife or just another on if you like collecting. The blade is a hollow grind with a secondary bevel. I'm led to believe hollow ground blades are strong. Unless you are a high end owner or prefer super steel, I really think this is worth every penny of the £6:95 price.
Usual excellent service from Heinnie Haynes, fast delivery and purchase confirmation. Grab it while you can, take it for what it is.

Excellent knife for the price. About the same size as PM2 and after some play opens as smoothly as a Rat II. No movement in the blade when locked open, and the lock doesn't look like it will slip durIng even heavy use. Rides a bit high in the pocket - altbough not really an issue in the UK. Torx screws look a bit off, could be an issue if you like to dismantle your knives. The gimping on the back falls level wih the handle too making it a bit useless. But overall a great purchase, especially given some very mediocre and even substandard blades are going for full price. (Posted on )

It must get boring reading these reviews when everyone just spends time thanking Heinnie Haynes for their fantastic service. Thing is, it is fantastic service and the service on this order was as good as ever. Thanks guys

The knives themselves (I bought 4) are excellent value for money at less than £8.00 each. They are well made and sharp enough to go straight to work although, as usual, I'll give them a rub up just because I like doing it.

There's no movement at the tip, no lift or side play and the blade sits nicely in the frame being pretty central. Two of the four were slightly stiff to open but, that's not a big problem when a spot of oil and it eased off. The handle fits well in the hand and the sculpting on the handle is grippy enough without being aggressive, clip sits well too.

I've paid a whole lot more for a whole lot less so these knives represent great value for money

To be honest, bought this knife to see what these modern design folders were all about and I wanted a ''dogs body'' knife for when loss/theft/damage were more likely to happen. On both of these scores it will be great, it seems solid enough to deal with some abuse and sticky fingers often like the modern designs and will leave my traditional style folders alone. The blade itself is centred and came sharpish out of the box though with slight blade play, the quality of the blade seems OK, though it's harder to tell through the grey paint. The screws on the pocket clip are semi stripped and the pocket clip is extensively scratched by the third screw on said pocket clip. The rest of the screws in the knife seem OK at a glance. It's good enough for the reason I wanted it and I've paid a lot more for worse knives, it seems OK. (Posted on )

After the usual, excellent, service from HH, the first thing you notice when you open your parcel is the blister pack. I've had 3 other Schrade knives and much preferred their cardboard boxes, personally - so if you order this one, consider getting a Sodbuster or something to help open the plastic blister...

The blade on mine was perfectly aligned, no wobble and all the fittings undamaged, but I will admit, the scales are a bit slippery. For the price (under £7), though, I'd be tempted (and am tempted) to get another to add wooden or micarta scales to it.

The linerlock is firm, but as someone else said, the knife is right-hand only and the clip is not moveable, which is a shame for anyone needing a left-hand blade...

All in all, very glad I bought it and may well be picking up a second as a reserve.

Absolute bargain for £8.00, don't hesitate.

However, if I'm being nit picky:

1. Some of the Torx bolts on the clip and on the handle scales on my one are damaged and sharp to the touch. Probably soft metal, but they were easily smoothed with sandpaper.

2. The black finish on the aluminium handle scales has already started to rub off along the edges, and that's just from an initial gentle play. It's not even lived in a pocket yet.

3. The blade's not perfectly centred.

4. The metal handle is VERY slippery. There is no grip whatsoever.

5. It's tip down, right side carry only. No options.

6. The thumb jimping is submerged below the handle of the knife, so very ineffective.

On the bright side.

1. The liner lock up is good and firm and there is no looseness with the blade at all.

2. Apart from the Torx bolt heads with damaged surfaces, and the flaking paint, the fit and finish of the knife appears to be pretty good.

3. One handed opening action is smooth.

4. It came sharp out of the hard to open blister pack.

Great for £8Review by

I have 2 fixed blade Schrade knives so when I saw a folder for £8 I was straight on it.
The blade is good, not quite razor sharp out of the box but still very sharp. It's a sturdy feeling blade too, thick enough to give confidence.
The handle, however, is not right. Despite the contoured scales, it's quite smooth and there's a feeling that my hand could slip up towards the blade. The recess for pushing the thumb stud isn't cut away far enough to depress the frame lock or apply enough pressure to the stud for opening - this fails as a one handed knife in that respect.

As an £8 knife, yeah, grab it. Be aware that it's not EDC due to blade length and frame lock.

Good but not amazingReview by

Quality:
The quality of this knife is the biggest downside. The materials are good but the finish is not. For me the pivot screw was already rounded and the pivot stiff although this might break in. The blade has play and is not centered. The blade also came reasonably sharp but not that good needs touching up for sure.

The blade and lock up:
The blade steel is okay and of course that is to be expected at the price. The shape and grind is good but it does have play and doesn't lock up solid. The liner also seems thin to me.

Handle:
The handle looks good and is finished well. It is comfy and I really have no complaints. It is a good size and is just pleasant to use and doesn't feel like it'll break.

Overall:
It is overall put together solidly enough and feels good and I like just holding and playing with the knife but a lot bothers me. It feels like a cheap knife but a solid one. I want to love it but just can't. I think it comes down to the fact I really like the design but it is just poorly done.

A:
You can remove the clip but the stud is fixed sorry, so it is not any easy conversion.

Is this Uk friendly
A:
Good Morning Kim, it is a liner lock so technically no unless you have justifiable reason:

Would this be susceptible to rust?
A:
Hi Mike, all steels apart from H1 have carbon in so yes it will rust eventually (not as quick as high carbon blades), always best to keep dry and oiled if possible.
