A novel solution to the problem of sleeping bag and clothing insulation compressing under the tension from the hammock. The Snugpak Hammock Cocoon. This insulating layer fully encases the hammock (rather like a giant banana skin) trapping warm air both within the hammock, but also in its generous layer of insulation. The full length zip allows easy access in and out of your hammock.

Due to the versatility of the hammock insulation systems, the wide variety of applications and variations in camp set up it is difficult to establish an overall comfort temperature for these items. As a general reference the insulation used is Travelsoft with the similar fill weights to our two season sleeping bags. We would strongly recommend you experiment with your own set up and gradually build up to more extreme temperatures until you are confident of the overall thermal performance.

• Full length zip (allowing easy access in and out)
• Fits most hammocks
• Complete with Compression Stuff Sack
• The Travelsoft filling gives great insulation and comfort (reflecting and trapping heat)
• Made with Micro Diamond fabric with a Paratex antibacterial treatment.
• Designed to keep you warm and comfortable (when clothing and sleeping bags are crushed against your hammock

    It's the future.

Posted by Tom on 31st Dec 2019

I just spent my first night out in the cocoon and I'm sold. It's December 2019 as I write this, 2 degrees overnight and damp, so I combined the Cocoon with a DD Jura 2 sleeping bag and headed out. There was no rain forcast to I decided not to use a tarp. There was however 100% humidity with thick rolling fog overnight, as the night went on the condensation turned to beads and into drips. The cocoon got soaked. Inside, I was totally dry, completely unaware of the dampness that was cascading around the cocoon. I was so warm I had to leave the sleeping bag unzipped and just zipped up the cocoon. I've got no doubt in the late spring to early autumn the cocoon would be enough on its own. The comfort surpasses anything I've ever experienced in a hammock. My air mat ia being consigned to the spares box. It is a bulky bit of kit but well worth it in my mind. Especially as you can leave your hammock (and a mossie net if you like) attached when you stuff it back in the sack so futre set up is a doddle.

Good idea, makes hammocking a lot simpler. Bag's big....but still only 2/3rds size of British army arctic bag, but weighs nearly 2kg. The bag is big enough for just about any size person...and is wide...will make a good sleeping bag in its own right if you like lots of room....and has centre zip which has openers at both ends...bottom end needs a cord so you can reach it easily. The openings at each end for the hammock to go through are too big and don't have any means to close them...not a problem as a bit of cord and a cord tie sorts that....but you do need to close them up as the wind whistles through the opening and under you and makes the 'underblanket' pointless...closed up it works perfectly. You need to keep bag zipped up when trying to fix hammock to trees as wind catches it and you find yourself at full sail. The bag has a large wind baffle along the zip length. Surprisingly the Snugpak compression sack actually fits and has room to allow you to keep your hammock packed inside the Cocoon. I often think someone at Snugpak's packing department has a joke on us all and packs their bags into as small a sack as possible...one impossible to repack again especially in the dark and with cold hands. Reckon the bag is about a 3 season and with the Snugpak blanket (*) would cover most situations...though I prefer the British army duvet suit to keep weight down and have mutliple uses. Don't know if anyone else produces anything like this...can't be long before they start to copy it....lighter and more compressible...but can't see nayone beating the price...and as you can use it as a normal sleeping bag with loads of room it's a bargain bit of kit.
