Solo Stove Titan

Solo Stove Titan

Designed with a double wall, the Solo Stove Titan is a natural convection inverted downgas gasifer stove. The air intake holes on the bottom of the stove channels air to the bottom of the fire while at the same time, channels warm air up between the walls of the stove. This burst of preheated oxygen feeding back into the firebox through the smaller holes at the top of the stove causes a secondary combustion. This allows the fire to burn more complete which is why there is very little smoke during full burn. A more efficient burn also means you'll use much less wood compared to an open camp fire. The Solo Stove Titan doesn't just burn wood. It actually cooks the smoke out of the wood and then burns the smoke not once, but twice!

The Solo Stove Titan also features a heat shield between the ash pan and the bottom of the stove. This heat shield protects the ground under the stove from scorching. The cooking ring's angled lip also increases efficiency by directing heat towards your pot minimizing heat loss. It also acts as a windshield while still allowing oxygen to flow inward. The Solo Stove Titan is indeed one of the most efficient wood burning stoves you'll ever own.

Key features:

  • Cooking Ring - Directs heat up and towards the center of your pot for maximized efficiency. The cooking ring also acts as a windscreen while still allowing oxygen to fuel the flame. The entire cooking ring can be packed into the stove body for compact storage.
  • Seconary Burn - Vent holes near the top of the burn chamber allow preheated oxygen to fuel the flame resulting in a more complete combustion and a hotter fire with less smoke.
  • Nichrome Wire Gate - Allows oxygen to be fed directly to embers from below. This helps to burn biofuel faster and hotter while allowing spent ash to fall out of the process.
  • Ash Pan - Catches loose ash and prevents it from clogging vital airflow. The ash pan also acts as a heat shield and prevents your stove from scorching the ground beneath it.
  • Airflow - Rising hot air, and the absence of oxygen created by the combustion process, pulls air through the bottom vent holes. This air movement fuels the fire at its base while also providing a boost of preheated air through the vent holes at the top of the burn chamber.

  1. all you need if there is woodReview by
took this stove for a week camping with wife and 2 kids as my only stove comparable in speed to a single ring compact gas stove, controlling the heat for cooking not so easy but ok using a cast fry pan and intermittently removing it from the heat and you need to constantly feed it, so best to have a pile of prepared wood inc. some thin bits in case you forget and need to revive it from embers and I didn't have it go out on me. easy lighting without matches (I didn't take any and relied on a ferro rod). clean burning generally still makes cookware sooty. Leaves only fine ash to shake out. a good product that I would recommend, I am very pleased with it (Posted on )
  2. Great StoveReview by
Got this last week after looking at Rocket Stoves but then coming across the Solo's. Used it twice in the garden now. I also have a meccano style stainless flat pack stove and a storm kettle that burn twigs.

Burn time for a litre of cold tap water was around 8-9 minutes in a Zebra Billy Can, a few minutes longer than advertised. However this stove burns through wood very quickly and I was not constantly feeding it every 20 seconds so the flame subsided a little from time to time. It would probably be a little quicker otherwise but really on these scales a few minutes here or there is pretty irrelevant.

It's main advertised feature of a hotter flame through gasification is sound. Not only can you see the flame coming out of the top holes into a focused central column but the fuel is indeed burnt to a powdery white ash. Both times nothing was left but white ash, no solid material remained unlike the storm kettle or flatpack.
Another bonus of this is that on the second use after the water was boiled I put in some inch thick chunky twigs which continued to emit signifcant heat as hot embers for 15 minutes after I stopped adding fuel.
This can keep water simmering or food hot if desired.

Lighting is easy enough with the right material though not particularly any easier than the other 2 stoves.

If this would be your first wood stove then it or its little brother are probably the only ones you'd ever need unless you're into ultra light where something like the flatpack style comes in. It's simple, durable and works really well thanks to the designed gasification effect.

Keep in mind that even with its hotter flame this is still a biomass stove so you will smell of smoke afterwards depending on wind and the pot ring and pots will get covered in black soot even if you try little tricks like washing up liquid.

Overall its pretty damn pricey for some stainless steel and a carry bag but it works and is probably one of, if not the best stove of its type you can get.
