If knives could be created in the same way we choose players for fantasy football league teams, every hardcore knife knut would recruit features and characteristics they like best from different knife companies and combine them into their favorite knife. Spyderco will undoubtedly fulfill many knife knuts knife fantasy picks with the introduction of the Spyderco Endura with Emerson's opening feature. These models combine all that’s functional and performance-based in a Spyderco folder with the blade-opening feature made popular and patented by Ernest Emerson of Emerson Knives.

The Emerson opening feature is a hook curving out the top of the knife’s blade. When removing the knife from a front pocket it catches the pocket’s edge quickly opening the knife blade ready to use. The knife can also be taken out of the pocket without engaging the opening feature by pulling it straight up and out with your fingers on top of the closed blade.

Enduras with Emerson's opening feature have screw construction making cleaning and adjusting easier. Their grey fiberglass reinforced nylon handles are molded with Bi-Directional Texturing for traction and improved ergonomics. Inside the handle dual skeletonized stainless steel liners strengthen the knife without additional weight and create an anchor for external and internal components to attach through for more sturdiness and rigidity. Their VG-10 blades are flat saber-ground with a stronger tip and larger 13mm opening hole. Added to the blade’s spine is slip resistant jimping. Phosphor bronze washers smooth out the open/close action and the clip is upgraded to a four-way tip-up, tip-down, left- or right-handed clip.

    Solid Spyderco with added wave

Posted by Nick on 12th Jan 2022

As a satisfied Spyderco customer (para 3, dragonfly, tenacious) I was looking for a hard working back lock. The QA is up to the normal high standard I’ve so far experienced with Spyderco’s offerings: really grippy scales on a handle that has length to spare (I take a large sized glove). The wave is an interesting and somewhat practical addition. On a working knife I could see the value in single handed deployment. However, the shape of the blade and the sabre grind, along with the fairly thick stock means that it’s an average slicer - better at puncturing things though! Maybe a bit overpriced for frn and vg10 steel (similar to the s110v ukpk price wise…) but still a solid performing member of the long established endura line. Happy with my purchase and I’d trust this knife to get the job done and be easy enough to retouch in a few minutes. As always, great service from HH

    Spyderco wave

I 'm not a knife expert by any means. I have quite a few and this is the most money i've spent on a folder. A Spyderco Emerson Endura Wave. Just trying to figure out how to sharpen my others the same way. I'm not touching this.

    Very Unique Knife

Very unusual design and concept. The coupling of the patented Emerson wave opening system to the Endura is genius. I was dubious, but the wave system really works - smoothly opening the knife as you pull from your pocket. Unfortunately a lot of Spyderco models are aggressively counterfeited, to a very good standard making it increasingly difficult to spot a fake, including the Endura Wave. To be sure that you don't fall victim to fakes (and they have turned up at large online general retailers) I think you have to shop at a reputable and authorised dealer like Heinnie

    excellent blade

Posted by darren on 27th Dec 2012

I've had this knife for some time now and I'm surprised to see only a few reviews on it because it is such a 1st class blade! So much steel for your money, great lock up, performs excellently on most tasks. I also have the FFG Endura and to be honest I prefer the Wave, it's a much more solid knife and easy to use straight from the pocket, yes it looks a bit funky but who cares about that for what you're getting, wicked saber ground VG10 sharp straight out the box, ergo's on it are great 5 stars for me!

    Wave goodbye to any task.

Bought this knife as I wanted a functional VG10 Spyderco to see the difference from my AUS8 Ka-bar dozier. The knife didn't disappoint; despite being ugly it came shaving sharp and waves every time I want it to. Very easy to maintain a sharp edge although it's proportionally fat blade doesn't make it as good at cutting through thick cardboard (but holds it's edge well). More expensive than I wanted to spend but I won't need to buy better. Only drawback is not UK legal for EDC.
