For hundreds of years in various tropical countries, in some distinctive style, the Machete has been a knife of choice for the "Outdoor Working People." Machetes are used to cut through rain forest and undergrowth, harvest crops, and for many household chores.

TOPS received numerous requests from their customers to produce a light, fast, practical machete, made entirely in the USA. They enlisted the help of well-known designer, outdoorsman, and writer Joe "Shangoman" Flowers, who collaborated with TOPS shop manager Leo "The Lion" Espinoza on this design. After much deliberation, they finally came to a positive agreement with the design and practical field ability.

The Machete .230 was born. Vigorous testing in a wide variety of terrains has proved the Machete's superior field performance. To complement the unique point on the blade and handle design, they custom built a ballistic nylon sheath. It has two small pockets on the front that can hold an array of small tools - sharpener, compass, etc. Whether you are a survivor, camper, kayaker, explorer, or just a jungle kind of guy, the Machete .230 is a powerful and useful companion.

    Hardcore

I do love this knife, but I’m sentimental over it and got it when it was only £100 and a bit. That said I would have no reserves recommending this machete, but like any tool why are you buying it? I love it, but there are some things you need to know to appreciate what’s going on. Firstly it’s a Tops knives modified Ontario knives blank designed with Joe Flowers who now fronts Condor knives, so knows a thing or two about machetes. The .230 is a full jungle machete but with a double v edge grind to aid strength vs slice power, built like a brick privy and designed to be flicked, hence the handle shape. The only drawback is the front end weight vs the thin handle. I admit I took the handle off and added a spacer as it was a bit thin for me. It’s also not as fast as say a thinner blade like a tramontia but if you want a big hunk of 1095 to last a lifetime this won’t let you down. And don’t wall hang it as it’s so fun to use if you have an excuse!!

    Very nice!

This arrived yesterday and I must say I'm very pleased. My initial thought was it seemed a tad short, but after getting a feel for it now it feels just right. The size and balance in the hand seems perfectly suited to my stature, medium build and height. The overall finish is high quality, the coating on the blade is nicely done and the Micarta handles are nicely finished. The grey blade, handles and red inserts made for a very modern looking knife. The sheath is great quality also, very usable and maintains rigidity when returning the knife. Has some pockets and a survival whistle too. The factory edge is sharp but not razor sharp, which for a machete is what you want really. Highly recommended.!

    By all means get one

But you could get almost 10 Tramontina machetes for the same price. At over £100 clams, I'd be scared to chop anything with this.
