    Victorinox evolution 14

Posted by Mike on 10th Apr 2021

This is a knife that was kept in production from the merger of the two swiss companies victorinox and wenger and as so has bits and pieces from both ,a hybrid or an evolution? The wenger bits are scissors, small file , the large screwdriver with push locking and the blade all the rest is from Victorinox 84mm series ? The scales are also in the wenger evogrip range but these have been altered by victorinox on these to take their scales tools etc The knife is very good and of a quality you would expect, not sure why this model was retained as its almost the same as the climber by victorinox? The 85mm frame is nice but its fat with the very wide evo scales about as fat as a four layers victorinox model ! All in all a good edc but as always the evo series are expensive and i cant see why so ? Service from HH was again red hot.....

Simply had to replace it !

Victorinox evolution 14 is a must have swiss army knife for me ! I have reviewed this model before and I really liked it I have misplaced that one ,I'm sure it will turn up but I just had to get another one as I really do like to carry this model I love the fact Victorinox updated the old Wenger model (it was then the classic 14 ) it is the wenger equivalent to the climber The wenger model had some short falls one was the can opener, it was good but the Victorinox one is far better with the screwdriver tip . Second was the awl it was dreadful on that wenger blunt as a butter knife ? . The small blade is replaced by a nail file one wenger and that's great one this evolution 14 . One thing I hated about Wenger was their poor main blade factory edges ! Well that's sorted here too ! Wenger were known for innovations one being the scissor s , self sharpening and with a cam lever system often copied by others like leatherman etc The other is their large screwdriver bottle opener with a push lock system that has been retained one the range . I just wonder why Victorinox has to charge premium prices on these models ,although HH are below most with this and the bigger evolution 23 which I also like and have Service is as always top notch from HH and is not always the cheapest place to buy but the saying ( you get what you pay for ) is true here . I give this knife five stars ,and as said HH is the place to buy it ........

    Victorinox hybrid

Victorinox evolution 14 is one of the strange models built from wenger and victorinox after the company buy out The knife has the 85mm platform of wenger it used there blade ,nail file, scissors and press lock large screwdriver bottle opener . The rest is victorinox as on the standard range This knife is more expensive than say the climber which is the nearest equivalent to it , but this one gives you a nail file in place of small blade and its a little smaller in the pocket but alittle wider due to those wenger evo scales ! This is a good edc knife I like to carry but wish victorinox would also offer it without those evolution contoured scales as I don't think they really do anything for it ! All in all a good model how ever it's a little over priced ? If you liked wenger you will love this I think !!!

    A little disappointed

Posted by Parky on 24th Jul 2018

I have carried Victorinox Swiss army knives for 40 years or more , usually a Spartan, recently an Alox Pioneer X. I thought I would have a change and try this Evolution 14 as it has all the tools of a Spartan plus scissors. On unpacking this knife the first impression was of cheapness. The liners behind the scales have very sharp edges ,as do the none cutting edges of the scissors giving the knife a cheap feel in the hand. The blades is thinner than a Spartan blade. The Victorinox emblem on the scale is white rather than the traditional inlaid metal. Everything works OK , it just doesn't feel the same quality that I am used to. Is this because it's a "Delemont " version ? If I had not bought this from Hennie Haynes I would be wondering if it was genuine !
