    FANTASTIC PIECE OF KIT

    Posted by GRANT.E on 26th Aug 2016

STARTED WITH SOME FAIRLY OLD KITCHEN KNIVES TO BREAK THE DIAMOND PLATES IN, THEY DONT LOK NEW BUT CERTAINLY CUT LIKE NEW. NOW BROKEN IN IWENT ONTO MY GLOBALS WHICH AGAIN ARE ALL LIKE NEW....AMAZING. AT THIS POINT BOTH MY THUMBS ARE PLASTERED UP, WHILST CREATING THE RHYTHM YOU NEED TO REMEMBER TO MOVE HANDS TOTALLY CLEAR WHEN COMING BACK. I THEN WENT ON TO START MY FOLDERS AND SMALL FIXED BLADES WORKING THROUGH VARIOUS HIGH END STEELS AND BLADE SHAPES.AND IN JUST OVER A WEEK IMO NOW A DAB HAND AT IT , IT REALLY IS THAT SIMPLE AND REALLY DOES THE JOB SUPERIOR TO ANYTHING ELSE IVE TRIED...YOU MUST REMEMBER THOUGH TO USE THE PEN ON BEVEL EVERY TIME SO THAT YOU ARE FOLLOWING THE EXISTING BEVEL AND DONT RUIN ANY OF YOUR CHERISHED BLADES. ALL MY KNIVES ARE NOW RIDICULOUSLY SHARP BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY HAVE THAT POLISHED BEVEL WHICH LOOKS AWESOME, M390 AND ELMAX DO THIS PARTICULARLY WELL.. IVE GOT MY SPYDY LIONSPY TO THINLY SLICE GARLIC WHICH YOU TUBES APOSTLE SAID IT WOULDNT DO [HE DOESNT USE THIS SHARPENING SYSTEM THO] I KNOW IT DOES COME AT A COST, I THOUGHT HARD ABOUT IT, BUT IMO THIS IS THE BEST PRICED SYSTEM CONSIDERING THE PIECES IT COMES WITH OF WHICH YOU WILL EITHER NEED OR WILL END UP WANTING ANYWAY IF YOU GO FOR THE LESSER .[ BARE IN MIND YOU WILL NOT ACHIEVE THAT HIGH POLISH FINISH ON THE DIAMOND STONES ALONE. I HAVE MANAGED TO BUY SOME MORE LEATHERS/PASTE ,FIRST ONES HAVE DONE A LOT OF WORK ,AND IF YOU KEEP WIPING THE BLADE OFF AND WITH GOOD RHYTHM THESE WILL LAST MUCH LONGER.. MY PROBLEM NOW THOUGH IS IM RUNNING OUT OF KNIVES ..DAMN IT. £815 ?? IVE GOT KNIVES WELL EXCEEDING THAT ,QUITE A FEW OVER £300 AND ME PERSONALLY HAD GOT TO THE POINT WHERE I DESERVED A BETTER/EASIER SYSTEM AND SO DID MY KNIVES ,BEARING IN MIND HOW TOUGH SOME OF THESE STEELS ARE GETTING. WELL WORTH THE MONEY TRUST ME......JUST NEED TO CONVINCE THE MRS !!!! CHEERS NICK AND ALL AT H.H

    absolute waste of money

    Posted by paulhw100 on 26th Aug 2016

Firstly most reviews I've read on HH where somebody gives a review with one star are people who clearly have never owned the item in question, well trust me I've bought one, and if my typing is a little odd its my huge tears landing on the keyboard pressing extra keys. The main reasons I bought this sharpener to start with is the fantastic range of grits, and all the knives I'm buying lately are "super steels" and anything other than diamond just doesn't touch them, plus there are no end of online reviews and the only criticisms are the jaws don't open very wide and obviously the price. On first assembly everything seems well made, put my first knife in, start to sharpen and the right hand rod is wobbling about, tighten it up still wobbling, tighten it up to the point I'm frightened of breaking it, still wobbling, on closer inspection the hole for the screw didn't go all the way through on one of the black L shaped blocks, thirty minutes with a needle file crisis averted.back to sharpening and i realise I'm doing two bevels on the right side and about four on the left, with the same grit, not four different ones. I found that the hole in the stones is much bigger than it needs to be for the thickness of the rod to the extent that they rattle side to side on the rod, Luckily wicked edge provide you with an extremely accurate digital angle gauge so you can see just how badly they are made, there is 0.7 degrees of play in the stones on the rod each side, so every stroke you take could alter three quarters of a degree from top to bottom, bear in mind this is a " precision " sharpener costing the best part of a grand. Also one of the white ceramic stones is in three pieces so it makes a clicking noise when using it because all the bits can't be on the same level. I have ordered a variety pack of shim stock from an engineering firm in sheffield to find a good size to wrap around the rods to take the play out of the stones and i can flatten the ceramic stone on my diamond bench stone, the point is should i have to at this price point. I have no doubt once fettled it will work like its supposed to, as it stands now out of the box its not as good as a forty quid lansky system.

    update to my previous review

    Posted by paulhw100 on 9th Aug 2016

Just spent most of the afternoon cutting my shim stock down. 0.075 mm was perfect, its taken all the play out of the stones but still allows free up and down movement on the rods. i am now getting results that I was expecting to start with, well this not strictly true, i was expecting better results than I've gotten, but I think that is down to the stones not been bedded in enough. I have reprofiled a D2 tool steel knife three times and its worn the rough off but they are still not there yet. I have upgraded my original 1 star rating which was mainly down to disappointment at the shoddy build quality, to a 4 star rating and thats more like 3.9, because its good, but you shouldn't have to mess about getting something to work properly that cost £800. i know I could have just dropped on a bad one, but quality control at the point of manufacture should be better.

    Results speak for themselves

Posted by Ed L on 11th Dec 2015

Once you have opened the multitude of boxes, assembly is simple. I had my first knife in the clamp in under half an hour. I'd done my research on this and the first knife in was a burner to break in the stones. The end result was spectacular.. The edge I got fist time out was mirror polished , scary sharp. If you have decent knives and want to keep their edges as good as they can get, this is highly recommended. That and see all the YouTube videos as they are a great source of instruction and will also give you a fair idea of what you're getting. Heinnie, as ever your customer service is the best. Thank you!

    As good as it gets

Posted by Ady on 4th Sep 2015

I'm a bit of an edge obsessive. I've tried drag through, minosharp, expensive freehand stones, freehand strop's with all different types of pastes, several sharpmaker type devices.. then this. I've had it a year of so now and sold all those other bits and bobs. I'm pretty sure there isnt a better home sharpening system and as the previous review mentioned, we spend so much on our blades, the edges deserve looking after professionally.

    Expensive, but worth it

    Posted by M H on 4th Jul 2015

There's no denying the cost of this. But how much have you spent on knives over the years? My total outlay in pocket, fixed blades, kitchen knives etc far exceed the price of this system. I want to look after them. I want to keep them razor sharp but not remove so much metal that it shortens the life of them. This is where the Wicked edge comes into it's own. The rock solid clamp and positioning ruler mean that you can put the knife in exactly the same place every time you sharpen it. The digital angle gauge allows to check to the minutest fraction of a degree that the angle you are sharpening at is perfect. Infinitely adjustable to suit any type of knife and you can even put convex edges as well as the standard V profile. It's quick and easy to use and gives unbelievably high quality edges that can be polished to a high mirror finish. It's well made and oozes quality. There's no doubt it will last a long time (as it should). The backup from the creator is unprecedented. You have a problem or a question? drop him a line and he gets straight back to you. There are loads of accessories for this that will allow to sharpen all sorts of bladed objects and all manner of stones to choose from. I've used most of the system out there over the last 20 years. The Wicked Edge is the best without question!
