Rough Rider Coal Miner

Rough Rider Coal Miner

The Rough Rider Coal Miner series is a good’un, and this UK Friendly Carry option is a fantastic addition. Featuring not one, but two 400 stainless steel blades, a sheepsfoot and a pen. The larger blade (sheepsfoot) is 7cm in length and has ‘Coal Miner’ etched into the blade. The smaller of the blades is the pen and is 5.8cm in length.

The black jigged bone handle looks really smart, and really helps create that coal miner feel to the knife. The knife is also finished off with a silver nickel bolster and Rough Rider inlay shield.

If you are after a very reasonably priced knife which offers lots of functionality and feels like a throwback to bygone days then this knife is perfect for you.

  1. Perfect pocket knifeReview by
    Brilliantly made.
    Great in the hand.
    Firm (non-locking) blades.
Reliable and useful on small jobs.
My only downside is that is doesn't come with a sheath or a lanyard hole.

My first was stolen. I enjoyed using it so much I bought a second.
    HH very good as usual.

i absolutely love this knife & for the price you will too, strong & sturdy very well built watch your fingers as your folding it back as its a real THWACK! reminds me of a real good old fashioned knife the way they used too be, this is my new favourite knife bloody love it (Posted on )
  4. Exceptional valueReview by
This is my 4th Rough Rider so far and no doubt I will end up with a drawer full. Fit and finish is spot on. Razor sharp and keeps an edge. Nice traditional pattern with good half stops and a quality snap from the backspring. Definitely way beyond its price point. (Posted on )
  5. AwesomeReview by
Bought this knife a few months ago and I’m more than impressed.
It’s used daily and it’s held it’s edge well.
If the several uk friendly knives I own this is by far my favourite.
Finish is good and it fits well in the hand.
Would certainly recommend this knife to anyone.
As always Hennie service was without fault.

  6. Great Knife & Great ServiceReview by
This was my first Rough Rider purchase and I spent quite a little time selecting this model as I was looking for a UK friendly EDC but with Grunt..
I must say I am very happy with my choice. Excellent fit and finish ,plenty of heft and a substantial sheepsfoot blade that can carry out some serious duties in lieu of using my fixed blade "specials".
Out of the box sharpness was very good with the pen blade slighhtly sharper than the more toothy sheepsfoot but a little bit of work with the strops made them both razor sharp.
Couldn't be more pleased and will definately be coming back for another from the Rough Rider range ...Well at this price it will be a shame not to.
Great service from HH as usual

  7. Tough work knifeReview by
    Rough Rider Coal miner
    Made by the Chinese
    on behalf of Rough Rider
Imported half way around the world
    Sold by Heinnie Haynes
Everyone involved must make a small profit AND YET a knife of this quality is sold for less than £13 !!! . What a solid workman like knife this is ,it should be capable of tackling most tasks its required to do . Everything ,bolsters blades springs etc very good , the blades i think are the sharpest i have ever received straight out of the box .
Am thinking of buying a second ,one for display one for hard work ! .
Very reminiscent of knives i had in my youth . Love it ............

  9. Cheap but not cheaply builtReview by
My first Rough Rider but not my last. Very impressive for the price. Great gift to a friend that won't scare them. This is definitely the knife that if your over forty your dad or grandad used to have.
You won't be disappointed for the money.

  10. Grandad's Knife!Review by
I bought one of these to see how the Rough Rider's worked out AND to add another to my collection of EDCs.

At the price, I don't care that there is a little discolouration to the scales, I bought it for use and for the sentimentality. Grandad carried something very similar.

Blades are solid and paper-feathering sharp out of the box. The slip-joint mechanism is strong enough to inspire total confidence and the knife has a good, satisfying weight to it. Fills my meat-hooks nicely.

Plus a 1.5 working day turnaround from the HH team! Thank you!

  11. excellent all rounderReview by
Great strong slip joint, no worry of closing accidentally, .. very usable blade. Great size for pocket. .. and soooo cheap.. highly recommended. (Posted on )
  12. Great traditional folding knifeReview by
I bought one of these coal miners because I wanted to try the blade shape, how good is it ? After a month I bought a 2nd' there that good. (Posted on )
  13. Fantasic Study KnifeReview by
I bought the 'Coal Miner' knife at the same time as a 'Dogleg Jack' modified stockman knife. Although I was disappointed with the 'Dogleg Jack' knife, the 'Coal Miner Knife' is a belter.

The knife is strong and sturdy with some real 'meat' behind it : a real 'working man's' knife. The knife has a lovely thick back so it can be used for heavy duty work. and the blades are dead tight in their bolsters - two definite clicks when you open them.

In general a fabulous gutsy 'working man's' knife. Highly recommended!

  14. good for a tennaReview by
This knife isn't bad, and for a tenna the blade and feel is good but the build quality on mine isn't as good as the other reviewers. The liners and springs don't sit flush and the pen blade actually hurts my nail to get out. I previously bought a half hawk by rough rider and the build was even worse (I have to physically push the liners back together every now and then to stop it falling apart.) for an edc it's good because it cuts well and I wouldn't be too fussed if I lost it. 15. Superb wee slipjointReview by
I had been waiting for this knife to come back into stock to order it as it was similar to a CK I had as a boy. Materials are excellent as is the workmanship. Love the brass liners and the general feel of substance and quality. Took a couple of minutes on a diamond stone to bring it up to razor sharp (no big deal). Nice combination of blades and a very tactile finish - UK legal is an added bonus . EDC for quite a while I think! (Posted on )
  16. Great value!Review by
Getting to quite like some of the rough rider knives lately! This one is very comfy to use and has a nice weight to it.Feels like it should cost much more than it does. didnt come very sharp out the box so put it on the sharpmaker and its now very sharp indeed! Cracking service as usual from HH many thanks .If you are after a cheap "user" this should fit the bill very well.Grab one whilst in stock. (Posted on )
  17. Perfect Pocket KnifeReview by
I have had this knife now for over 3 months and i have to say that i am so impressed with it. Firstly sharp out of the box. The knife has a great feel in the hand when opened,. Nicely balanced with a good blade opening and closing action. The depth of the main blade gives that little bit extra grunt when you need it. Overall I am amazed at the quality of the Coal Miner given the low price. Strongly recommend. (Posted on )
  18. Amazing for the money!Review by
Got a couple of Rough Riders now and i am amazed at the quality for such a low price... fit finish and general feel of this knife is fantastic! Will be buying plenty more Rough riders that's for sure. (Posted on )
  19. Quality Review by
having watched the youtube HH video I was still surprised by the quality, everythings inline and the action is very well made, this can hold its own on knives of the same sort from sheffield and some.

Came sharp out the box, and everyones seen it remarked how nice its put together. Recommended

  21. Old Fashioned QualityReview by
This is a plain and simple quality pocket knife. Its got a good weight to it, feels study and is very capable of taking razor sharp edge. I'm really happy with this knife, love it! (Posted on )
  22. Worth alot more than £10.95Review by
*Blades snap into place VERY firmly so there's no worry of them closing back on yor fingers.
*Both blades stop at 90 degrees before fully opening.
*Main blade is central in it's liner. Small blade ever soo slighly off (doesn't bother me).
    *Extremely sturdy knife.
*Overall finish is of very good quality, not perfect but still very good and you're only paying £10.95
    *Would happily pay double.
