Spyderco Dragonfly G10

Spyderco Dragonfly G10
Description
Another example of stature not accurately representing ability is a Spyderco Dragonfly. Its cutting ability is unequal to its diminutive package and innocuous name. It kicks off with premium components like VG-10 blade steel and a G-10 foliage green handle. The VG-10 is tooled into a full flat-grind 2-1/4” long blade with a spine cusp jutting out the top where the thumb naturally settles itself for control over the cutting edge. The G-10 handle is ergonomically blueprinted so when held and used the knife feels and performs like a larger tool. Even the positioning of the Spyderco Round Opening Hole in relation to the pivot is tweaked for smooth opening and hitting all the correct pressure points in the hand. Blade and handle geometry create a series of grip angles with a purposeful flat shelf at the base where the pinkie finger rides as a leverage point.

Spyderco seem to have nailed VG10, making the most of sharpness, longevity and ease of sharpening.
The G10 offers a little extra weight, which I like, and it feels better in the hand than the frn, IMHO.
Minor criticism would be the pocket clip, on a handle this small can feel uncomfortable on prolonged use, but it's no bother to me as I tend to remove pocket clips anyway.
Verdict - excellent knife which punches well above its weight. (Posted on 24 July 2016) - Nice to collectReview by Alijami

I concur with some reviews elsewhere which mention that the spine thumb ramp ends sharply. I prefer the radiused ending on the Robin. I also noticed that Dragonfly deployment is very slightly more uncomfortable than with the Robin even though the hole diameter is identical to the round part of the Robin teardrop. The reason is the Dragonfly hole is very clean (or sharp according to your viewpoint).
The Dragonfly is 10g lighter and 1.5mm thinner than the Robin. A possible advantage for some but I prefer the "chunkier" feel in the hand. I also prefer the very slightly more bellied profile of the Robin.
So I don't regret having the Dragonfly in my collection but unless I have a task particularly suited to the VG-10 it's the Robin I will carry most days. The relative cost means I could replace it twice.

I have only had this knife for a couple of days but I've already fallen in love with it. For me, it is the best small knife in its class in ergonomics and aesthetics.
Can I just add that the service provided by Heinnie was top notch. Will be using again for sure. (Posted on 19 April 2012) - Very impressed!Review by Kane

I did end up removing the wire clip for an even smaller profile in my pocket which was easy to do. (Posted on 17 October 2010) - Dragonfly G10Review by Ady
